It has been about 3/4 weeks since I got my CD5, and in that time its getting better and better. But I think it has now just about peaked regarding its performance, and the verdict is......well, its awesome. Yes I know those of you with CDX or CDX2 or even better will be thinking yeah yeah, but you should hear this, but for the price of the CD5 its superb.
To me its the most analouge sounding CD player I have heard, its smooth and fluid sound really appeals to me, and it also has good PRaT.
Mixing the old style amplifiers with the new style source I think is a great combination. My amplifiers are not known for being an easy listen (92/FlatCap/90.3), they offer a very fast and lean sort of sound, but in my opinion they are very musical. But the smoothness and depth that the CD5 offers really calms things down quite a bit.
Before I got the CD5 I ran a Micromega stage 1 for 9 years, and that CD player compaired to the CD5 is confrence leauge stuff. The source first rule really does apply itself well here. I am able to listen at much higher volume levels without any harshness whats so ever. Even at 11 oclock setting, it still retains a wonderfully smooth but fast sound.
The CD5 really is a bit of a bargain.
