Looks like your system will be getting its fiber. Winker

That's rather sexy ! Do we get a choice of wood frames..?! Winker

So where's this from..?

How would a carbon fibre effect back plate do anything? Haha!

That would be the go faster effect than !

Looks good , certainly better looking than my Grahams distribution blocks ( which is why I hide them under the sofa ).
They have the air of expense about them though . Hopefully I'm wrong .

Carbon Fibre effect! Effect? Damn cheaper if it was an effect. Real carbon for a theoretical real purpose.

Just after I posted the pics, I lost my Broadband connection, until now (first time in three years). As Adam hath a will to resolve what He deems good, so has He power to execute His will.

You want to see the inside.

Stop teasing & spill the blood beans!

How does it connect to the mains - or is it powered by lightning?
Posted on: 04 June 2009 by Markymark
100% decoupled

Think it must be Wireless !! Winker

Pic 2 gives a clue, a plate with missing screws, maybe that's where the mains cable goes, or it's a cover for an IEC socket?

You have to laugh sometimes. Otherwise what would you do?

Carbon fibre plug socket, haha.

I am off for a lie down.

A wooden surround. I wonder if that's why there's no CE mark.

What exactly is this 'theoretical real purpose' that CF may be used for with relation to mounting mains sockets?

So, let's see some pics of the inside then.

Mark, I'm slow, but thorough, with everything I do and that includes posting . I don't wish make exaggerated claims and it hasn't even been connected to the mains to listen to yet.

Garyi, I'm not posting this thread for my benefit. If you think it's funny, please laugh quietly.

A brief outline of the product:

It's a distribution block designed to be mounted to the wall and accept 10mm2 T&E cable direct from the consumer unit.

It's made from Amazique, which is an extremely heavy hardwood. This is used in the making of guitars, so it should produce a nice tonality to string notes from my hifi. The last sentence was for Garyi. The hardwood coupled with glued construction, gives a very rigid frame for the sockets to be mounted on.

The Carbon Fibre back plate is totally isolated from the wood frame by using very soft silicon grommets. It's slightly smaller than the frame and "floats". This back plate mounts to the wall and only touches at three places, via pvc (stiffer than silicon) feet. Altering the position of these pvc feet on the plate, can tune how the 2mm springy Carbon Fibre behaves. Basically, the silicon grommets isolate the high frequencies, and the Carbon Fibre suspension the lower frequencies from the frame/sockets.

Inside, the connections have been made using 20mm2 solid C101 copper rails (at no point does the copper reduce less than 10mm2, even in the contact area in the socket's brass ferrule). The rail design removes joints and also allows the middle socket to distribute a parallel, clean and even supply to the two outer sockets. Now, with the use of Crabtree sockets, all four boxes will receive an equal, clean supply. Using rails, means the sockets have to be totally rigid and stable, hence the solid construction of the frame. The cabling inside is also held totally stable, with no movement. The use of Carbon Fibre for the cable entry point cover is for strength. 10mm2 T&E is very stiff and it needs to be held solid, with no movement allowed.

It would help if you would clarify what exactly this is.

That is - is it a "Product", who makes it, what is your connection to the firm/individual and why have you posted pictures when the design is clearly intended to bring benefits (other than CF aesthetics) yet it has not been listened to?

Adam,

I've designed and made it. No company is involved and it's not and will not be for sale. It's an experiment for myself.

The insides have on purposely not been shown as I respect your rules regarding mains alterations. It will not have a CE mark and will never be put forward for testing for one.

I would have posted pictures of the exterior even if the listening tests proved it to be a failure. This is a forum for subjects to be discussed and if my design is in anyway helpful for anyone else or if anyone can help me, at any stage of the project, all the better.

Nice one, count.d! Looks like you've been very thorough - I for one would be very interested to know how it performs.

Feel free to post interior shots.

It just seemed rather strange and "product" like until your explanation.

Seriously Count. lets see inside a plug socket, it will make my week.
