Saint Etienne Finisterre

Posted by: JeremyB on 05 October 2002

Playing St Etienne's new album Finisterre - it's brilliant - easily their best yet and Sarah Cracknell's voice gets better and better.

Anyone else heard it or been to the live concerts?

Hi Jeremy,

I started listening to them since 'Foxbase alpha', I think it's still their best LP (In term of the quality throughout). The bassline is just amazing, of course Sarah's voice. There are no shortage of great singles after that, i.e. Join our club, Who do you think you are! (Even though it's cover version). I did not buy the last 02 LPs, I heard that they got a bit jazzy which is interesting, it would be nice that you can tell me more on the last 02 LP.

I went to see them at Shepard's bush Empire 3 years ago, their live performance is good. We stayed right at the front of the stage.

cheers

Finistarre arrived in the post a couple of weeks ago along with a couple of other tasty new bits of vinyl.

Of the three records that arrived that day, it has got the second most play, which is not bad given thaat one of them was Katryn Williams latest.

I have only dabbled with StEtiene before but I fancied hearing som more so I ordered it.

I think all round it is a good album. I like the opening message before each track, and the music and Sarahs voice flow nicly. It is by no means an inspiring album, but I imagine I will play it quite a lot over the next couple of months.

I like this album alot and have played it lots as a result, but those talky bits before each track are starting to grate somewhat now mad Shoot the b&stard who didn't make them (un)programmable tracks!

Otherwise, excellent stuff.

Heard the track 'Action' on a free cd and was hooked immediately - although that track is pretty disco, so it might get old quickly. Hoping to pick up the full album on vinyl if it gets released in that format.

'So Tough' & 'Tiger Bay' are the real goodies, I reckon, but Finisterre is truly a return to form. Anybody heard the new Sarah Cracknell solo? I quite liked the first one, so may plunge...

Finisterre is a great album but have you seen the new DVD? - worth the cover price alone for the bit where Sarah Cracknell is running round in a green babydoll nightie.

I bought a Birdie album (ex backing singer and drummer) the other day which is quite 'Saint Etienne'
