Cataloguing

I know this subject has come up often but all the software mentioned only seems to add albums on CD. Cataloguing LPs or whatever seems to be ignored. I brought CD Trustee about a year ago as they said they would be producing a version that would automatically add LP details as well as CDs.

I have just received CD Trustee Pro and it works. It comes with it’s own database of albums or it will look the song up on CCDB/Gracenote.

It’s not perfect with the lookups. It finds some albums under “The Beatles” but not under “Beatles”. It didn’t find “Big Daddy, Making Waves” or “Difford & Tillbrook, Difford & Tillbrook”. It also has trouble with odd compilations. Having said all that it is brilliant. Over the past week I’ve put on 97% of 700 LPs, which is something I’ve wanted to do for along time.

Cost is $79 and $39 if you are upgrading from regular CD Trustee. They can be found on http://www.base40.com . Usual disclaimer, I’m not related. Didn’t get a free copy etc, etc.

This does look very interesting as far as it goes, but doesn't appear to offer a solution for those (many) people who collect classical LPs. Maybe one day Confused

Excellent post RN

Might b just what I've been after.

Can you export the database you've created in any other format. I want to be able to sync the info with a PDA that i can then take to record fayres. As my mind weakens with age and my collection grows its difficult to keep track of what i have and don't have.

Is there any way it could be done by a device that reads the bar codes?

There is no import on CD Trustee unless you have an vast knowledge of Microsoft Access. You could update by runnig it on two machines. Not very practical.

I'd love to have a dB of all my CDs, but I just can't bear the thought of inserting each one into the CD drive for the CCDB, let alone type up the details. lazy sod maybe but life is too short.
