Well Knowh Furphys

It has been reported that a severed finger may have been found in a bowl of chili in a well known restaurant chain in the States.
Which brings to mind the subject of rumours which sweep through communities, then the nation, which are finally proven to be untrue.
The story was that on the Ipswich Road, near Brisbane, there was a group of individuals who liked nothing better than to accelerate up beside an unsuspecting driver and give his car a smash with a length of chain. The upshot was that one victim on checking the damage to his car found a length of chain attached to his rear bumper, complete with four severed fingers.
Now as mentioned this is an untrue story though totally accepted at the time and the same may well be true in the case of the finger in the bowl of chili.
As a final comment can we place "Weapons of Mass Distruction" in the category of Furphys or just downright lies.

I think the finger was found in something from the Wendys chain of restaurants in the States and was widely reported on the news. Before April 1 too.

Urban myths/Furphys don't usually lead to war though.

The Wendy's customer involved apparently has a history of damages claims against large organisations. Sounds like she's at it.

No, it was not very smart of me adding that little item.
It does a total disservice to the furphy spreaders union.

Hmmmm. If it is a scam I hope Wendys will sue the suer for the damages they have sustained.
