Namies in Northern California

.

Please note: This is NOT a joke. VV is trying to hook up a guy he met on a photography forum with a willing Naimie in northern California so this guy can be dispelled of the notion that a Rotel CD player is better than any record player.

This time I need a favour to help convert an infidel I've run into on a photography forum. This guy runs a 200 quid Rotel CD player into Martin Logan speaker (with Adcom pre/power in between) and claims it's better than any turntable, although it doesn't seem he's heard an LP12 or anything like that. I have suggested a visit with one of my audio friends and he would be delighted to bring along a bottle of Scotch for the session. I promise this won't be another you-know-who incident, so if anyone could help out, I would appreciate it. He photographs motor sports in Northern California, so if you are in the area and willing to do a dem, please let me know. I'll make sure he brings along his CDP ;-)

P.S. It's a sad day on the Naim forum when a guy goes on about interconnects the price of an 82 and doesn't attract some serious piss-taking.[/b]

...when you're already at the top?

The problem with upgrading your gear is that once you've hit the top of the line, a decision has to be made. Do you:

  • Switch to a more expensive manufacturer (Krell, ML, etc.)
  • Start buying more expensive ancilliaries (Nordost cable, Mana Sound Stages, bigger speakers, etc.)
  • Downgrade (a.k.a. What goes up, must come down)
  • Change hobbies
  • Come to the conclusion that there isn't anything left to live for, then kill yourself in a firey plane crash
  • Recognize that your system is "good enough", then buy some more music (which is where my head is at right now)

Sounds like one of those zen hi-fi koans

I'd love to help in this regard but cannot as my system is in pieces and I can't unequivocally state that it's appropriate for demonstrating the obvious. But we do exist. big grin

Cheers

Keith.

Marc,

If you're serious please e-mail Vuk at qstatistic@sympatico.ca. He'll help arrange the dem between you and the Rotel CD deck havin', Adcom amp runnin', Martin Logan speaker playin' non-believer.

By the way, don't you have an LP12/CDS-II/52/500/DBL system? Poor bugger's mind is going to twisted into a seven-dimensional mobius loop. Hope you have a copy of the Sheffield Fart Record on hand.

This guy has his Rotel CD player on a very special dedicated stand that places the unit so high in the air that he almost needs to stand on his toes to change the disc. He is 6' 9" so you can imagine how isolated the Rotel actually is. He doesn't need an LP player when he has a such an affordable CD player that sounds so good.

BTW, here's a special message from Fat Boy Lacerte for you, "STOP, STOP, STOP!"

'nuff said.

Joe,
A couple weeks ago took my lp12/aro/geddon offline...Sorry,forgot...

THe reason for this was to put the PREFIX on. What ended up was there was so much RFI, I decided (with NAIMS help) to put the player to bed for awhile. There might be a new stepup that would (could) be RF proof.

Everything else is up and running and the FRAIM has settled in quit nice..

If this changes anything please let me know....

Regards,
Marc

Damn. Why did I take that thing down...With the internal boards...It still would have been fun..

Marc,

Vuk e-mailed me to say the guy in northern Cali would be interested in the dem even if your LP12 is mothballed in the basement.

So, if you're up to the task e-mail Vuk at qstatistic@sympatico.ca.

Cheers,

Joe

I live in San Francisco and could possibly be persuaded to conduct a demo. Possibly. Check out my profile for gear info.
