Chrome

On listening to some old vinyl last night, I played a band called Chrome who hail from San Francisco - pretty edgy stuff...

Anyone else know them?

Chrome are one of my favourites! The best avant garde dustbin kicking, Ballard / PK Dick influenced band ever. They appeared on the seminal 'Subterrean Modern' compliation with the Residents, Tuxedomoon and MX-80 Sound

'Half Machine Lip Moves' is in my top 3 LPs ever or all time. Red Exposure is also brilliant.

Many other great LPs, and also solo Lps from Damon Edge and Helios Creed to get.

I was in SF a few weeks ago, and was hoping to track down a few Chrome rarities there, but no joy, only a few Helios Creed LPs. No sign of a vinyl 'Raining Milk', which I am still looking for.

There is a Chrome box set, called The Chrome Box which selects tracks from thier history

The odd new release or rehash still crops up, like last years 'Angles in the Cloud'

Whats your favourite ?

Half Machine Lip Moves is quite entertaining as is Red Exposure - I also have a twelve inch single, Danger Zone I think it's called.

Tried (several years ago) to get some others up in town (London) - no chance.

Yes they still sound good - will hopefully sound better when I get my speaker (Arc) situation sorted.

Do you know if they're available on CD at all?

Fisbey,

Yes HMLM as part of the Chrome Box CD set, and also also on a combination CD with Alien Soundtracks.

Amazon.co.uk lists the latter.

I haven't seen Red Exposure on CD for a while -That was on a different label to the rest (Beggar's Banquet) and there has been some difficulty in getting it on CD. Some of the tracks are on the Chrome Box

I have them all on vinyl (except Raining Milk) All the way from The Visitation through the HMLM, The Chronicles, and the slew of live albums, Lyon, Germany etc. and then solo LPs All the later releases, up to Angel in the Clouds have been CD based, although there was a 10" single I got last year, seemingly called 'Chrome - Third Seed from the Bud'

Beware looking on GEMM, Musicstack, as there are a couple of other groups called Chrome, one a House/dance one, and a lame metal band as well I think.

Sadly Damon Edge died, so all the latter Chrome stuff has been Helios Creed rehashing stuff.
