service questions

I have purchased a 2nd hand 72/140 while holidaying here in the U.K. They are 1991 vintage and have had one owner from new. The owner has only used them sparodically as he owns several pieces of hi fi equipment. Now assuming hes telling the truth and I had no reason to doubt his integrity- can I put off any thoughts off servicing the gear as naim recommends. I mean does the wear on parts, caps etc occur only through use.
I didnt intend to buy more naim gear as Ive already got a nait3 at home. However £500 seemed a good price.

Ian,
Naim maintain information on each component they sell. They are very helpful and would be able to tell you if either product had been returned to them for faults/service etc.

I believe the combination you bought here in the UK would benefit from a service and recapping (especially the power amplifier).

Naim will tell you that unfortunately, component performance degradation occurs regardless of use. It will still work very well I am sure but would benefit greatly from some Naim tender loving care.

Over the last year I have had all my Naim items serviced and recapped and they sound fantastic.

Contact Mark or Sheila in the service dept. for advice.

I hope you had a good time in the UK by the way.

Regards
Joe

No, the capacitors leak with or without use (I think that's what happens??), so even if they've been switched off for years it's still a good idea to have them serviced.

all the best
