Jakatta - American Dream

Posted by: wal riley on 04 November 2001

This has been bugging me for a while, so you lot are my last hope! For some time now, I have suspected that the spooky piano motif 2/3rds of the way into 'American Dream' was a piece of music in it's own right,(as opposed to 'Dead Already'-the other sample used, from the sound track of American Beauty) and whilst watching 'Model Behaviour' t'other night (god help me!) I heard an extended version of it being used as incidental music. I've tried search engines, the Channel 4 site and even the production company's site, but to no avail. Does anyone know who did this music and what it is called? A clue would be very much appreciated!

Wal,

I have the album with the complete set of composed music for American Beauty. It is the score by Thomas Newman. It is very good and the one you are looking for

If you go to your local HMV and look in the sound tracks you will find 2 different CDs for American Beauty. One is the right one (it says "music by Thomas Newman" on the bottom of the cover) and the other one (with the belly button picture) is a mix of other stuff.

Andrew

P.S. The "sppoky piano motif" is track 8 - "American Beauty"... i.e. the title piece.
