How can I tell new posts on this forum

Posted by: garyi on 07 October 2005

It occurs to me that this forum does not seem to show me new posts?

That is to say any other forum will remember the last time you were in and show you a different icon for posts that have been made to threads. Infact this forum used to do just that.

All I get nower days is a little picture of a folder, next to another picture of an identical folder. There is no indication as to if there have been posts to that thread. The result is having to click on each thread.

The browser helps to an extent by highlighting recent threads, but this does not tell you if its new posts only that you have been there.

ah I see no easy way then.

Yet another example of how far behind Infopop software is.

No it don't.

All the icons on each individual forum my PC say new content whether there is or not.
Only on the forums page does it tell me I have no new content in FAQs all the others have new content. Not too helpful I think.

All I get in any browser is something like this:

The red posts simply mean that I have recently clicked them, this does not indicate new posts.

As for every other post, you will see two identical folders on each one, this happens on every post regardless of if there are new posts or not, in other words no easy way to see if there have been new posts.

it's probably because you're using a mac Big Grin

I see something like this (note the left-most folders)

Most odd, as all my browsers do the same thing I am at a loss, could it be any preference in groupee I have missed?

Lets keep it away from Mac vs Pc, it seems pointless in this case.

All I can think is the cookie does not update when I return or something. All posts show as unread all the time.

does your browser remember you when you restart or do you have to login each time?

My PC does the same as your mac Gary. I've just learned to live with it.

John I am always remembered, the cookies work in that respect.

my mac behaves like yours too - I also find if I post in a URL, Quote or Graphic then it always puts it at the end, no matter where the cursor is - none of which is problem, just a curious event.

ok, I've just looked at the Groupee forums and found this:

quote:

You log in one evening. Call this time "A". You browse the site for a while, and then you go to bed (and sleep for 8 hours). When you visit the site for the first time the next day (call this time "B"), all new posts since time "A" will be highlighted. They will remain highlighted for approximately one hour, regardless of closing your browser, ending your session, logging out, or reading individual forums or topics. After the hour is up (call this time "C"), your light bulbs will be updated so that only new posts since time "B" will be highlighted. The process repeats after this.
Having said that, the feature's current functionality and possibly a new method are currently under discussion for a future release.

I think that may be translated as "our software is shit and we can't work out how to fix it even though everyone else has".
