Thanks Seasick
Sounds good if you can keep Jools' hands tied behind his back. Look forward to Hold Steady, Tinariwen and Attic Minkeys. Hope Bryan ferry doesn't talk too much about art history in relation to Germany

I hope they get the bl**dy sound sorted out as well. Last few series have sounded awful (apart from an old guy with three strings on his "getar" o'course
In September 2006 he was appointed a Deputy Lieutenant for Kent - I believe one of the privileges is that is is now personally allowed to annoy you by waving his hands around (need to check that as it might be wrong

Travis perform numbers from their album, The Boy With No Name. Scouse singer-songwriter Candie Payne makes her TV debut. Grinderman is the garage rock outfit formed by Nick Cave and a couple of other Bad Seed members. Queen of UK soul Beverley Knight goes back to her gospel roots. Joanna Newsom, harpist from Nevada City, is also in the studio. And Dizzee Rascal performs a track from his album Maths and English.

The line-ups look like a "The Word" mag CD.
Nice.

If it's going to be the usual format, this show is beginning to look awful tired. And Julian doesn't get any less irritating.
Later's got a lot to learn from new kid on the block, 'Live from Abbey Road', which has a refreshing new format (and which I hope will continue to a new series).

I think it's unfair to blame Jools for the show becoming tired, after all, he's a big music fan and is just indulging himself. What the show needs is his piano to be hidden and for me to choose who is on the show each week.

I'd be happy with that! C'mon everybody - let's start a bandwagon...!!

I totally agree that Later is becoming so tired. I haven't bothered to watch it for so long it just became the look at me I am Jools Holland show.

One of the plus points with Sky+ just set to series link,it records all the shows you can then pick and choose what to watch/skip/record.

Indeed skip through the rubbish and sample the good stuff. Maybe if (like a football manager) Jools could be booted upstairs and we could get someone less irritating to present the show. Seems like prime requirements are:
- does not wave their hands around
- does not play piano in a boogie-woogie style
- does not have a big band
So anyone want to put themselves up for the job?

Admittedly the format is getting a bit tired. However, the picture and sound quality of the transmission on BBC HD channel more than makes up for that.

Having watched the show last night I would offer the following:
Arctic Monkeys - believe the hype
CSS - mad and good
Tirawna(?) - hypnotic and good
The rest just a blur of fast forward.

Have to agree with the first two on you list Jono, first time I'd heard Artic Monkeys seems they know what their doing and CSS grew on me after the first track but anything "World Music" makes me want to just switch off and thats what I did the same with the other artist on the show. Have to agree with others that the format is a little tired and the fact thats there is very little electronic or experimental music for my taste, to much effing Indie Rock (but I suppose the "kids" love it).

Hi All, The Arctic Monkeys were fantastic, if they had another songwriter they could become the new B.... Sorry couldn't resist! Did not see the point of the old bloke, he could not sing, yes he had met Django but I have met George Best and it does not make me a footballer! I am going to start a new thread on The Hold Steady. Brian Ferry was actually so much better than I expected. CSS looked like a band who had been put together by music journalists, yes that bad!
