Hi,

Just a quick one ...

All this talk of isobaricks & cans makes me think these are the older linn speakers right??

What about linn's new speakers??

Are any of these any good???????

The Kans and Isobariks (never heard Saras) were fantastic loudspeakers. Their immediate replacements (Keilidhs, Tukans, Keltiks) were nowhere near as good and put me off the brand.

Nowadays we have the Katans and Ninkas (I'm waiting for a new Isobarik). I bought the Katans for a 2nd system and tried them against my old Kan IIs.

Kan IIs are still great, but the Katans blew them apart for the following reasons:

* Katans are more tuneful, more expressive and really soar with the music
* Katans have more bass
* The treble in the Katans is much much sweeter
* Katans time as well as a Kan, and are as speedy.

Kans do have more of a classic earthy character than the Katans, but are musically outclassed.

The Ninkas are great too. Throwing a bigger sound than the Katans (although the Katans will sound massive in a small room) and producing more bass extension.

Bear in mind these comments are in the context of full Linn systems. I have heard Katans in a Naim system sounding very good too. Always one to add to the demo list.

I was wondering if anybody has an opinion on the latest Kan version (which is significantly cheaper than the Katan)?

Best,

Has anyone heard the INDEX speakers from Linn. An ad in the local paper made me check out the specs ..... they look like old mordaunt shorts !!!

Theres a pair for £350 nearby ( to far for this weekend) but may have a second pair of Isobariks coming for this 2nd system..... so really Im just interested to know ...opinions

Hi Andrew,
I must confess I never heard the Katans, but the reasons you mentioned about the Katans, would probably be a personal taste thing,imho.
* Katans have more bass (I don't need/want more bass, that's just why I went back to Kans)
* I wouldn't like a much,much sweeter treble.
(that's just one of the things I like about the Kan's, especially when playing some bigband jazzy stuff like the latest Robbie Williams CD)

But it is possible that in another room/acoustic I might prefer Katans.
