Freeview EPG "No Event Information" help please

Posted by: Milo Tweenie on 16 December 2006

I’m hoping you can help me diagnose a problem with our Sony freeview box. The Electronic Programme Guide is showing “no event information” against every channel.

The picture is fine, all channels are being received and the signal strength meter is showing maximum strength and quality. We get our signal via a roof aerial from the Sandy Heath transmitter near Cambridge.

I can’t find anything in the Sony operating guide that would suggest that the kids have blanked it. I’m assuming the data is still being transmitted, but maybe not? Anyone any ideas?

Many thanks, Milo

Have you tired unplugging the box from the mains? Remove any cards and leave it completely off the mains for several minutes. Then allow the box to re-initialise. See if ths sorts it.
You could try to do an a manual update if you box has this feature.
Maybe see if your box has a forum, there you might find out if this a regular thing and get another solution.

Good luck

"A small number of Freeview users have reported that they sometimes get a "No Information" or "No Event Information" message on their channels.
We're not sure what causes this, or why it only affects some boxes (especially the Sony Freeview models), but from the messages posted on this subject in our forum, it seems that the solution is to reset your Freeview box (turn off and on again), then do a scan for new channels." From radioand telly.co.uk. Their forum is here, also have a look here to see when/if your box has a scheduled download. Finally Digital Spy is a good source of information.

I have the same problem with my Sony box, and I'm also on the Sandy transmitter. The problem started I think when the box upgraded its firmware automatically - I'm now on 1.14 whereas it was 1.12 before. The switch off and re-scan works of course, but the problem will come back. Eventually, the EPG will get updated after about 30 minutes. I reckon a new firmware update will appear sometime, but Sony are a little slow on that. Otherwise it's a great little box

Many thanks Guys

Powering down and then up again has done the trick.
