The number 666
Posted by: Paul Hutchings on 05 July 2005
A strange thing happened at work today. We name all new computers WSxxx with xxx being a sequential number. Some time back I configured and despatched WS666 to a users desk.
Today the Help Desk ask me, as the ever helpful Network Admin if I could look at one of their calls and if I could allocate a new name to said machine.
When I asked "Why?" apparently the chap who has the machine "doesn't want that number".
I'm not religious, I know it's supposed the be the "number of the beast" etc but is there any particular significance placed on that number?
Really it struck me as a very odd request, I'm not sure if it's a case of me not appreciating someones religious beliefs or the chap in question being a wee bit over sensitive.. if his bill at the Supermarket checkout is £6.66 does he chuck on a packet of gum?
cheers,
Paul
