CLAIR DE LUNE
Posted by: B Mike on 03 August 2006
Can anybody recommend a good CD recording of this please. ~This is my absolute favourite classical piece but have yet to obtain on CD. I have a CDX2 so if someone knows of an HDCD recording that would be even better!
Thanks

There's a wonderful orchestral version by possibly Stokowski or Toscanini with Eugene Ormandy and the Philadelphia Orch. that's really stunning. On Sony.

The piece Clair de lune is from Debussy's Suite Bergamasque. I'd recommend any recordings by Walter Gieseking, Robert Casadesus, or Pascal Rogé.
In particular, there is a 4-CD set on EMI of Gieseking's complete piano works of Debussy.

I have a very slow (5min 50 sec) version by Kun Woo Paik on Virgin 7567-91465-2 which is absolutely mesmeric. I have no musical training, so I don't know whether it's right or wrong, but I love it.
