I heard a piece of music a few days ago that i really liked, but only have one bit of detail about.I managed to jot down 'con te partiro' - not even sure if that is spelt correctly! Can any body help me in identifying this piece and recommend a good recording?

Many thanks.

What kind of piece was it? A symphony? Chamber music? Opera?

You're not making this easy.

If it was a midsize piece for mostly wind instruments (or woodwinds - as the recently departed Vuk would insist) it could be the Gran Partita.

By Mozart.

I don't care for Brightman, I much prefer Andrea Bocelli's version. But fortunately everyone can be satisfied on Bocelli's album
Romanza, on which he sings Con Te Partiro once by himself, and again later, in its translation Time to Say Goodbye, with Brightman.

I had first heard Bocelli sing this, believe it or not, on a TV commercial for the Las Vegas resort Bellagio. It grabbed me immediately; Bocelli sounded somewhat operatic but much less overblown, with colors in his voice reminding me of Brazilian singer Milton Nascimento.

Thanks for the information chaps.Does anybody know if the piece is available without the vocal -brilliant though Bocelli and Brightman are, i just prefer the orchestral.
Thanks again.

On the CD single of 'Time To Say Goodbye" there is an instrumental version as the last track. The single should be relatively easy to track down as it was No 2 in the UK for a few weeks and in Germany it stayed at No 1 for ages.

Hope this helps,
