I used to have an MF DAC (digilog) and still own a pair of MF MC4 speakers.
The MF electronics that I've heard (old and new) and pretty much as far removed from the Naim sound as you can get with hi-fi electronics. They major on scale, depth and textural toning all of which I think they do well. In response I also find them sludgy with poor timing and definition. I certainly wouldn't buy an MF system now.
Having said that the Musical Fidelity MC4 speakers I have (presently on Ebay) have been excellent, having many PRaT qualities such as excellent timing and a clean fast bass. It was only last year that I finally found a pair of speakers I was happy with, which was when I replaced them with a pair of Linn Kabers. Overall the sonic presentation of the MC4s is very similar to my kabers.

Hi Ben,
Well I've probably got the oddest system here right now!
I use an 82 Hi-cap into a MF F16 power amp, this combo are making great sounds, although only temporary for me. The MF amp only shows it's steely qualities when you crank it up over 9 o'clock. I wouldn't recomend mixing MF with Naim but if your pushed, it's not as bad as some might think. They do look a bit odd in the rack together though!
What were you considering using and why?
Regards
Barnie.

For crying out loud! Nothing is perfect. In hifi there are lots of tradeoffs - if I didn't have Naim, I might very well go for something like an MF A series integrated - my old A1 was bettered by a 62/140 (which cost significantly more than the A1), but the A1 itself bettered anything else I heard - albeit with different tradeoffs than the Naim required.

I've read very good reports of MF gear in Hi-Fi News.

Did'nt you spill my pint??
I am a serene individual happy and content with my lot.
You are a bitter twisted person who has had more than their share of personal tragedy but actually set up their own website to bemoan service issues. ( Nothing to do with Naim, for the unknowing. )
You have been banned from Mana, from Pink Fish and now start to post here. People who run websites have the right to ban people from posting of they see fit. If you upset them too much they ban you. Its their trainset, they make the rules.
Its simple really. Cheaper than litigation.

No? but maybe I should...

So why are you attacking me?

I am just another guy, but not like you!
I set my site up because it's simple quick and I wanted to!
"You have been banned from Mana, from Pink Fish and now start to post here." Mike
I am not banned from Mana, JW is a friend. I am banned from PFM, because my CD3 was treated rather badly by one of PFM's trade customers, it then cost me a repair bill at Naim. I have been non to happy about that, so I'm banned. I have been registered here since 2001.

That's right Mike, so probably best you don't try posting on my site eh!

I do hope you are not threatening me Mike?

You really ought to grow up. If you are not banned from Mana why doe you state that you are, in your profile?
"I've been banished from the Mana Forum and all posts deleted (major cred) I'm very proud of this and stand by my convictions!"
Looks like I did spill your pint.
And I dont really care, you aggressive buffoon.
No doubt your riposte will be Most Illuminating.
( PS Sorry, James...)

Because when I wrote my profile 3yrs ago I was banned, I had a personal argument with a friend.
Have you ever had a row with your friends?
I may change my profile one day, but not on account of you!
"Looks like I did steal your pint." Mike
Looks like you need to steal your drinks, I'm amazed you've even made it through the door, be careful on your way out.........
" And I dont really care, you aggressive buffoon." Mike Lacey
What is it you don't care about Mike? Insulting people? Hi-Fi manufacturers ripping people off?
Now how about you answer some of my questions?
Barnie.

I had a pair of MF P150 power amps which I used biamped,(passive....!) into a pair of homemade speakers using KEF drive units and a home made preamp
I enjoyed that system for several years, until I heard a 72/hicap/250...the rest is history

Hi Laurie,
"homemade speakers using KEF drive units and a home made preamp" Laurie.
Seems like you were struggling a bit back then, this is my point. I mean right now I drive an Audi, but if I could afford an Aston Martin I'd buy one tomorrow, that doesn't mean the Audi is a bad car though!
Just like my F16 power amp, soon to be replaced with an EA-2, doesn't mean the F16 is a bad amp. I'd bet a lot of people here have never even seen an F16, let alone heard one fed by an 82 Hi-cap into Bariks on phase 4 Mana.
If Ben r needs to mix up MF with Naim there's little to stop him, maybe he will like the combination, or maybe he just can't afford what he would like right now.....
BTW Does anybody remember Mana being voted best room at the heathrow show, when they were using "The Preamp" by MF? Long time ago......
