Suggestions for mains leads?

A dedicated spur would be nice but it’s not going to happen soon so what’s the best way of getting high quality mains to my system? The nearest mains plugs are 3 metres away and at the moment I’m using a couple of PC-type extension leads (i.e. with spike protection) to do the job. I need 8 outlets and there appear to be some weird and wonderful products on the market, ranging from good scientific common sense to almost snake oil stuff. Any suggestions?

First of all, get rid of anything offering "spike protection." Transformers inside amps and power suplies are intended to respond to the transient demands of the music you play, and supply the requisite current in an instant, for when, say, somebody hits a big drum very hard.

"Spike protection" will rob the transient of its life.

Case fuses and/or circuit breakers should deal with any damaging mains spikes.

I used to use a computer mains block with anti-surge, and then I tried Music Works Megablock and leads with no antisurge. They made a big improvement to my appreciation of music through my system.

8 outlets? That's a lot. Either get two 6-way Music Works Megablocks, or plug less important components like a cassette deck into the wall using your existing setup.

Steve.

This link details my findings when I upgraded to an MK Durablock and Crabtree plugs, which I did because I did not feel able to swing a spur past The Nagger

For best results keep one Durablock for the amps and the delicate signal stuff such as the preamp, on another.
