HDX and R-com remote

Posted by: gone on 02 April 2009

Anybody know if there will be an update to allow the R-com remote to control the HDX?
I know there's a special mode to allow it to control the nVi, so maybe a new PIC is in the pipeline?
Obviously, I can get the full GUI using a laptop (sadly not an iPhone Confused ), but it would be nice to have Play/Pause/Next/Previous on the R-com.
I suppose, ideally, a new sub-menu on the Flash would be nice, but I imagine that is now off the radar.

My coffee table is covered in remote controls and it's time to simplify.....

Cheers

The R-com is indeed a beautiful remote - I love the high manufactured feel and simplicity of it...

But, IMHO, unless Naim are indeed working on a new version to incorporate some of the new products and technologies (of which you will never know about until it is out), I would do yourself a huge favour and go out and get one of the good universal remotes, throw all the others in the drawer...! There's a whole raft of options and ranges out there now, from the popular Harmony (Logitech) up to something like a Nevo....

I don't know for sure, but I'd be surprised if the HDX isn't in the Harmony database of supported products by now....

I would agree with the above comments re. the Harmony remotes - they are extremely versatile and easy to set-up and use, and should definitely be considered by anyone looking for a single remote to control a range of diverse components. I bought one about 4 years ago and it has been used in a range of situations to control both Naim and non Naim equipment with no trouble.

Lovely....

It mutes my 102 when I switch from listening to music to a move or game... Or I can switch the TV and leave my 5.1 muted... So i can watch baseball and listen to Zappa.

Since my HDTV doubles as my monitor for Foobar a Harmony is essential.

I like to easily swap back and forth between watching a game and choosing a song in Foobar.

I know have The One.... great buy.

is there not a way to control the HDX with an "http controller"?

Then you could use your iPhone!

I use this to control Foobar from my iPhone.
It is as simple as opening up a safari page.

I am going to guess that if the HDX has a UI that is controllable from a browser, it would work on an iPhone.

...problem is, the GUI is Flash, and until Adobe and Apple sort out their spat, it certainly won't run on an iPhone.

That slimline thing looks nice - much preferable to a Harmony. I'm allergic to Logitech products as I've had so many problems with their pervasive software over the years.

I suppose an alternative is finding out which code set the HDX uses, as my PVR remote can be programmed. Some of the Naim preamps use Philips RC5 but not sure if it's across the range. A search of the forum gives some hints - maybe I'll have a fiddle tonight

I didnt know that....

is there ANY possible option for a non-FLash version of the GUI?

Or possibly, if saavy enough, you could have someone write one for you????

Maybe in a future update?

The non Flash GUI is the "Naim Desktop Client" software package, supplied free with all HDX's...

Yup, but you can't run that on an iPhone Winker

You certainly could. Naim could write an app in a day.
