(New-series) Diapason 'Micra' on Nait-2!

Posted by: Alco on 11 January 2003

Hi guys,

About 2 hours ago I got a call from a friend, who's also searching for some new, suitable speakers for his Nait-2.
He has tried lots and lots of speakers, and lately he got pretty sick and tired of the fact that his Nait was unable to drive most of the speakers he liked, due to lack of power(reserve)

Now, this morning he picked up some brandnew Diapason 'Micra-II' speakers to try for the weekend.
To make a long story short(er)... These georgeous Italian babies were the best he ever heard at the end of a Nait-2!!!
I was kinda surprised to hear this, as I always thought that Diapason's were pretty hard to drive. This new Micra seemed to be a little more sensitive than other Diapasons. (around 88db)
So, this Sunday evening we're gonna try 'em over at my place. I'm very curious if they sound as good as they look.
(they seem to look more like a mini version of the Karis than the square looks of the previous Micra)

Well,... I'll keep ya guys posted of my findings.

Greetings,
Alco Smile

Alco !

On your place I will go out and get that 72/180 as faster I can, before some other bastard get it. Second, I will be able to chose any speaker, because I will then have enough power. But on your place (or your friend) I wouldn't get that Diapason, because I was heard them all, even Adamantes which are to much cappuchino sounding and REALLY don't have nothing with Naim.
Sonus Faber and Diapason is like my friend tell, a speakers for a narco-gay scene members.
They are not what a real naimie man want.

Cool

Hi Ozren,

Well, maybe you're right, but it's always nice to be able to try something in my own room, for free Smile
If the Micra's are not my cup of tea I think I will buy me the 72/180 combo.
btw: Just spoke to the same person on the phone (5 minutes ago) He's still very thrilled about the Micra's. (even on his modest, lightweight Atacama 'Nexus' stands)
well, we'll see...

Hi guys,

well, I'm back with a full report on my Diapason 'Micra' home-demo.

In short: I'm hooked! I simply love 'em!
Long version:
I didn't expect much of this Nait/Diapason combo, so I already figured it would be one of the many dissapointing recent home-demoes.

But,.... not this time!
Finally, I've found me a pair of small speakers that sound just as good as they look.
(and imho they look georgeous!Smile )

The wood is much lighter (which I prefer) than that of the Sonus Faber 'Concertino's I had last year, but all-in-all the Micro's are MUCH better, imho!

I was very surprised that the little Nait could handle the Diapasons. The new Diapason series are easier to drive.
The sound was VERY open, perhaps due to the fact that the woofer is driven directly from the amp, without any interference of a cross-over. Roll Eyes
The low-end had lots of drive and power. More than you'd expect from a speaker this small and with this tiny woofer.
The highs were very detailed, crystalclear, and fast. (thank God, not that commonly liked buttersmoooth treble, from the likes of Quad IIL's)
All in all, it's one hell of a dynamich, open, datailed little beasty!

(after giving them back last night, I went back to my ol' Kannies,....yuk!,what a differenceFrown )

I ordered 'em today and I can't wait to welcome these little babies home! Big Grin

Well, that's my story really...

I just love happy endings! Smile

greetins Y'all,
Alco
