N-VI and set up

Hi,

Generally the dealer will set up a new system free of charge, but this does depend on the dealer. I suggest asking them in person.

(second hand items are not usually covered by this though)

IT should be free. The sort of money you're paying he should set it up

Does this mean that things have changed from the good old days of price-fixing when "setting up to the purchaser's satisfaction" was part of the deal and Naim recognised that not every bit of their kit would actually work properly in every domestic environment, and the user's manual made it clear that in such dire circumstances the dealer would remove the kit and refund the dosh?

Clarification of the manufacturer's position on what's included in the MSRP (Mnaufacturer's Suggested Retail Price) would be very helpful to understand whether the dealer is doing us a favour or selling us short.

spoke to my dealer today, yes he said they will install it and set it up, providing thy dont have to run cables etc, looked on there web-site it states most items installed and set up for free, perhaps as i am only spending £3000 there is a limit to what they feel they should do without charging for it ?

I guess that depends what they mean by running cables. If its making sure the cabling is tidy and installed correctly then I, personally, wouldn't charge for that. Should you wish for the speaker cables to be chased into the wall, or hidden under the floorboards etc then I think it's fair to say a charge could be made for that, due to the amount of work involved.

i know what your saying richard, and believe me i would not expect them to do that sort of work for free, it just seems to me that the service you now get it not what it was, considering i have been buying 95% of my hi fi etc there since 1974 and have spent in excess of around £15000 over the years i would have expected a little more in the way of service, perhaps i am wrong to feel this way. yours john

Only £3000? I'm impressed that you think that £3000 for one piece of kit isn't much. You could buy quite a good second hand car for that and I bet they'd spend more time setting that up for you

By doing what? Putting a tenners worth of unleaded in it to get you home?

Hang on a minute. This isn't a question of money. The dealer said he would come in provided he doesn't have to be too pernickity about the cabling which anybody can do. Seems reasonable to me. What you want is for the dealer to come in, set up the system, ensure it's working and setup correctly. What's wrong with that?

Well last time I spent that sort of money on a 2nd hand car they MOT'd and valeted it. I bet they were making a hell of a lot less on it than a Naim dealer makes on an N-Vi

all the cabling will be there ready and waiting for him.

Slashing into a person's home and running cables is a dirty, nasty job, fraught with potential difficulties and needs time and money spent on it to get it done right.

If you expect that from your dealer for free then
you're being unreasonable, and dicking yourself over at the same time.

You don't get a plumber to do the landscaping do you?
