Old Age

Posted by: Deane F on 10 October 2005

I don't fear old age. It's not inevitable that I will be old one day - it'll only happen if some good luck comes my way amongst other things.

I hope my body doesn't give way on me. Same with my mind.

I want to look back on my life and remember the people I have known more than anything else.

I want my wrinkles to reveal concern and care for others; and also some of the suffering I have been through. But mostly concern and care for others.

I don't want to grow old alone. I want a companion to accompany me.

If people ask me for advice when I am old I hope I know more than just what to say - but also how to say it.

Deanne, you really need to get out more.

I think I can safely guess from your recent thread starts that you are contemplating an affair and you are going through a mid life crisis.

I am just passing time before I go back to Christchurch to be with somebody with whom an affair was contemplated during my married years but which was never acted upon. So well spotted, I guess.

As to the crisis - hell, what is life but a transition from one to the next? Control is utter illusion.

Those who look optimistically forward to old age aren't remotely qualified to discuss the subject. Judging by the age you present here Deano you will have quite a range of spare parts available to you by the time you reach maturity. The brain re-cap should be a good upgrade.

Deane,

What considered to be the old age, again?
Posted on: 10 October 2005 by Deane F
Kuma

I think that depends a lot on how one treats one's body when young.

A nominal figure? Hmmm - maybe when rising seventy?

You live in a young body and die in an old one.
So get out there and live your life old bean before you wonder where it went.

Steve O.

Quite. Exactly what I hope I'm doing right now. This is nothing more than an attempt to put distance between my values and my perception of them - and see if they're something worth having.

Nothing wrong with a bit of reflection/contemplation as far as I'm concerned - why does it have to be a crisis?

I would have thought trying to improve yourself would be good thing.

Train? You mean you aren't chauffeured by someone called Donald?

It's your own personal train, surely?
