buying used

There seems to be a healthy secondhand market in Naim equipment. Where are the best places to look for used gear in the UK? Any tips?

Best source is Loot....www.loot.com

next local trade it mags

next hifi mags...items tend to have higher asking prices.

Do not be afraid to negotiate hard if you are buying older/bottom end stuff

Nait2/Nait3/32/32.5/140/hicaps/CD3/CD3.5/intro's/SBL's etc

82/250 are coming cheaper so light negotiation is advisable.

XPS/Supercap/52/DBL's/NBL's are non negotiable ..just grab them when they are offered.

Second hand is a good route to go...best of luck.

I'd agree with all of Mick's comments and just add an additional comment with regard to negotiability.

With all items you intend to buy s/h (cars, hi-fi etc) remember that, with few exceptions, there are always more out there to be bought.

Walk away if you cannot get the price you want - impatience is the enemy of a healthy bank balance, and a handful of crisp (or creased) notes in the hand of the seller now is often more appealing than a slightly larger handful at some point in the future wink

Be decisive and confident!

Andy.

My dealer has a corkboard in the store lobby that is a wish list of sorts. Buyers post what they are looking for and the price they're willing to pay. It is an easy way to find the going rate of certain components and encourages involvement and evaluation by the dealer. I don't like posting my phone number publicly, so I give my list to the owner and ask if something comes in for trade to call me. My dealer likes the cork-board method as it keeps a room full of traded-in items to a minimum(with quick turn-over) and allows an anonymous seller to stay that way.

P.S.
My best Naim buy ever was a 42/110 purchased at a flea-market for $100 !!!
