CD5 play with no puck
Posted by: woody on 15 February 2004
Just noticed my wife had a CD playing in the CD5 but had forgotten (!) to put the puck on...CD seemed to be playing fine...I didn't think it was optional but is it?

Are you sure she hasn't Superglued the disc into the tray?

The puck is for hard wired left brain types who can't do anything without a full set of instructions.

Lets call a spade a spade. Only a woman would do something as silly as that. She didnt put the cd in upside down did she?

"Puck it !"

thanks for the useful advice...and although it played (apparently fine) without the puck I've given her a damn good telling off. Only thing is, now she keeps having a go if I leave the toilet seat up, leave empty cups lying around, yada yada.

Next time she does it, tell her to get the puck out...

This would appear to be a CD5 ability I have seen it in action, though my CD3 would throw a hissy fit if you were so rude to it!

Hi,
Guess what?
Came home from work one day and openned the cdx draw to find a cd in it without a pluck.
Apparently, she said all her friends enjoyed the musics.
Gave her good ear bashing (lied to her that she messed up the hi-fi big time & not working anymore etc.) and went to get Nac82 as an excuse. She felt so guilty that didn't complaint about spending money again on upgrade.
Sometime we have to use the situation to our advantage.

Such manipulative tactics will come back to haunt you one day. Bad, bad karma.
Be straight with your lady and she will be straight with you. Either you can afford the upgrade to an 82 or you can't. The interplay between you and her on the matter of this upgrade should revolve around this very issue of affordability versus (both) your potential enjoyment of the upgrade and nothing more.
Now that you've scared her away from daring to touch your bloody hi-fi, you may yet find that she hates it even more and could well be all the more resistant to any other upgrades you may have in mind in future - whether or not you can afford them!

Steve.

I came home the other day and found the kids using my system like a disco, fighting over who got to press the next track button. I gave them the remote and told them that they wouldn't be allowed to use it again if they didn't just let it play.
Then the youngest (age 4) went and hid my puck...

Steve,
The trouble is being truthful never works as far as hi-fi is concerned.
She is a sensible lady with money and would never understand how can you possibly justify such huge sum of money for such little improvement over sound (in her opnion of course)

Km

Km,
It's not just about men understanding women, it is also about women understanding men. Compare the obvious sonic and musical benefits/cost of upgrading to an 82 pre with the purchase of several pairs of shoes, several tops, frocks and skirts during the course of a year, each of which may only be worn once, and that includes the time in the changing room. £60 or so per week spent in Dotty Perkins, M&S, Top Shop, River Island, Next, Dolcis etc - never mind the designer shops, roughly equals the cost of a brand new 82.
Boys have their toys, and girls have their clothes and accessories. Each to their own.

Steve.

Yeah those Manolos Carrie wears once or twice on Sex in the City are really grounds for getting a 252 or better. I have shirts and pants that are decades old so I'll gladly think that I really deserved the 82 and 2 hicaps I bought before my 50th birthday from all the money I saved on clothes.
Dont forget the make up thos gals go thru too, that's worth a Hicap or possible a super.

I agree about the men vs. women "cash debate" argument 100%
We stick our salaries into the "pot" to give an overall budget for everything. We then draw off "equal amounts pocket money" that we do what we want with. Spend it, save it - our choice.......
Interestingly, we just moved house
SWMBO packed 6 boxes with shoes, 3 cases with clothes and I filled the car with books for the charity shop.
Me, an entire audio system, 200 LPs, 300 CDs, 100+ DVDs, 150 boxes of whisky and whisky memorabilia, all my garden tools, all my hand tools , all my power tools and enough clothes to fill a couple of suitcases and 6 suit carriers.
I think she must be saving her cash up to leave me !!!
