A friend of mine - a well-known music journalist - has heard six of them, at a special playback, and said they sound stunning, particularly the early stereo discs.

The packaging is also of very high quality and the films are supposed to be extremely good also.

My friend spoke to some of those involved in the mastering of these discs and assures me that enormous care has been lavished on them - as befits what I guess is the most valuable and important catalogue in popular music; and he also states that they have NOT fallen victim to the "loudness wars".

I'm looking forward to September all of a sudden!

Although...

"On the bright side", Howlett remarked, "they sound louder than previous CD reissues."

This is excellent news. Messrs Gilmour and Waters, please note...

yeah, I was excited to hear of the event in Yesterday's LA Times. It's the whole onslaught of stereo or mono, CDs and Vinyl. There was something in the article that said after a time, no date given, some of the extras will be taken out. So I'd guess they want a HUGE rush of cash infusion. I'll probably pick and choose certain albums instead of the whole set. I just didn't care for Y Sub and Help of their movie music when I was a kid tho loved the films.

I do think I'll pick up a couple of their early albums I never had. Tho I want them in glorious stereo.

I wonder what the boxed set will cost for vinyl?

I know my nieces will roll their eyes with this onslaught. Their dad, divorced from my sister, plays the Beatles all the time. And Amy said "who wants to listen to Dylan that much, what an awful voice!"

Sad she's already turned off to the magic of two incredible performers. She is really nice, so on her stay I played her some vinyl Judy Collins since she's from CO Spgs and some 50s jazz singers. And Joni to show the difference of Woodstock from original and CSN.

This sounds very interesting. As someone who missed getting pristine, early numbered originals, I can happily live with these if they sound as good as "Love".

Will have to get the monos as well...

The Mono box set is the part I'm most excited about.

May I ask why? What advantages are you expecting?

I am rather a Beatles completist but reflexly baulk at shelling out for both stereo and mono sets. What may I be missing through my meanness?
