Uniti CD player problem.

Posted by: Michael Chare on 24 March 2010

The disk on which a CD sits when it is being played by my Uniti has come away with the magnetic puck. Looking at this disk there is no particular obvious means of attachment to the motor assembly, so I am wondering how to prevent this happening again. Pressing the disk back into its correct position can only be done gently because the assembly on which it sits is spring loaded.

Have had experience of this problem. Get it back to your dealer and repaired under warranty ASAP. It will have to go back to HQ though as a new mech will need to be fitted.

Mine's back from Hq, took about a week and a half - very good. I'll know more about that steps were undertaken to resolve the issue when I collect it at the weekend. I'm very impressed by the customer service I received, no quibbles or questions about getting this resolved. the dealer even offered a loan unit

Damn, I am experiencing the same problem! When I played a CD last night I noticed distortion at the start of the track. It sounded like a turntable had been set to the wrong speed! When I removed the puck the entire CD and the lower attachment came undone! Can I please find out the nature of the repair? Does Naim replace the entire transport tray?

Paul: What did Naim do by way of repair? How is the Uniti's CDP after the repair? This seems to be a common problem and I am rather surprised that Naim had not identified it during the Uniti's beta testing? Or is my unit a Friday job? Looks like many Uniti's were assembled on Friday!

Have just received our demo CDX2 back having had this suffer the same fate too (less than 2 weeks to turn it around). I thought it was only Uniti related at first (as they run rather warm compared to CDPs), but obviously this is not the case.

Naim are well aware of this problem and will resolve without any fuss. Just get your dealer to send it back.

This would be a bought-in part, not built or assembled by Naim; the Philips VAM1202 CD mechanism. Could be a batch fault (not unusual in mechanisms but rare to crop up after all the QA and testing that each one goes through before fitment) in which case I'm sure Naim is already well into rectifying matters.

I have sent unit back to local dealer! Does the unit need to be sent back to Naim in Salisbury? I am in Singapore!

Dealer just informed me that Naim will supply a new CD transport tray which will then be installed as a replacement.

Add one more to the list of broken Uniti's.

Just played a CD for the first time in a while - I usually just stream music. Don't really want to send it away for 2 weeks, but if I work it in with the half term holiday it might not seem so long.

Correction: the original tray will be retained but the CD mechanism will be replaced. Is this the experience of the rest here?
