Dave,
I have the Kscope sampler CD which features Tightly Wound from the Tightly Unwound album. It's very good though and have added the band to the list... The MySpace samples sound good as well. I look forward to your review of last nights gig with riverside on the concerts thread.

Thanks for the review dave.
BTW, another track on the Kscope sampler was by Lunatic Soul (the solo project from Riverside's Mariusz Duda).

I have a few Pineapple Thief. They are very variable.
137 - Very good
Variations On A Dream - Excellent
8 Days (Limited Edition CD that came with early editions of VOAD) - Excellent
12 Stories Down - Weak
8 Later Later (Limited Edition CD that came with 12SD) - OK
I dropped out for a bit then..
What We Have Sown - Excellent
Tightly Unwound - OK
Early Pineapple Thief are just Bruce Soord on his own (bit like early Porcupine Tree).
As you can see above, I find them hugely variable. Bruce doesn't have a great singing voice and when the singing dominates (as it tends to do on 12 Stories Down) I find it rather monotonous and grating. Instrumentally they can be terrific (e.g. What We Have Sown).
I understand that Bruce re-vamped 12 Stories Down (it became 10 Stories Down) and that the resultant effort is better, but I couldn't face finding out to be honest.

Oh, and if you like Pineapple Thief check out both Vulgar Unicorn and Persona Non Grata, both of which are pre/contemporary PT Bruce Soord bands (with lyrics by Neil Randall).
Though confusingly the PNG album The Fine Art Of Living (which Prog Archives wrongly attributes to Vulgar Unicorn) has, as a bonus disk, a CD of Vulgar Unicorn demos.
And the whole "PT" thing isn't a coincidence. In an early interview Bruce admitted Steven Wilson was a big influence (the same interview where he admitted he thought more people would buy Pineapple Thief albums if they thought they were a proper group, so he made up the group members on the early ones).
