Shelley /Devoto Buzzkunst

Thanks, knew this was coming, will pick up tomorrow.

Its actually quite a nice combination of them both. Has quite a big electronic bias to the music - I guess a follow on to what Shelley was doing with Homosapien. But Devoto's lyrics and singing give it a very recognisable Magzine type feel.

I think it actually works very well - sounding quite up to date, while at the same time managing to keep the elements that you liked from the old days.

Slightly disappointed with this. As Steve says it's dominated by Devoto (you can hear odd bits of backing from Shelley that bring back memories), and is way more Magazine than Buzzcocks (or the later Shelley solo stuff).

However, after a couple of listens it seems to lack the strength of song and the devastating hook-lines of Magazine or the originality of Luxuria. There are some rather dated drum-machines n use too.

My favourite is "So There I Was", which has a more organic sound to it...

It's good, don't get me wrong, but not as good as I hoped given the lineage. Maybe more listens needed!

Well I still haven't been able to track down a copy yet, so I cant pass comment.

Though I will probably like it more if it is more magazine sounding that shelly/buzzcocks.

I haven't got around to playing it again. I've bought a heap over the last two weeks and frankly my first impressions haven't been good enough for it to get into the rotation. I'll make an effort though and report back!

Does anybody know if this is out on vinyl or just CD ? Going to try and hunt it down again at the weekend.

I just can't summon up the oomph to play it again! I will get round to it, but there wasn't much there on first listening to that demanded it get into the rotation (you know how it goes sometimes).

Also, I've been working from home on some stuff and I've generally had Radio 3 on all the time...

Played it again. It was slightly better than on first listen but IMO "So There I Was" is the only thing on there that you can qualitatively compare with the majority of Magazine's output.
