Or has he done the right thing?

I'm not sure I quite understand his assertion that he has not resigned as England captain.

Personally, I think it is for the best as I thought he was a bizarre choice for the role in the first place.

I like him and think he was the right man at the time, maybe at the wrong time for him though.

I get the impression he threatened to resign and they called his bluff, but who knows?

In any case, I wouldn't be surprised to see him reinstated.

By the skin of your teeth!

You won't be after the well-organised England team gets hold of you in the Ashes this year.

Just seen an interview with Jonathan Agnew on the BBC's website - looks like I'm completely wrong with everything I said above.

Oh well, at least England's 2009 schedule isn't too tough.

I cannot say I 'like' KP from what I see but I thought he had started well as a captain despite that. In the end it looks like his 'back me or sack me' bid failed. In the end he did not bring the whole team with him and surely the ECB are not going to accept ultimatums from a captain about sacking the coach unless they have total team unanimity behind them.

Maybe it will work out OK, captaincy may actually have reduced his effectiveness as a player, after all it did this to Botham. Flintoff etc.

I get the impression that the 'joke doing the rounds' in the report by Aggers on today's Today Programme got it pretty much right:

KP's joining the Navy - so that world can see him.

Clearly we need self-confident players, perhaps even at the risk of being a bit cocky, but when does that bubble over into an arrogance that is destructive rather than constructive?

Mark, I agree totally, if you change the words around a bit.

Personally, I think it is bizarre as I thought he was the best choice for the role in the first place.

From BBC online:

"Kevin Pietersen always has been a man to chance his arm.

Perhaps no-one should be surprised that someone who happily switch-hits one of the world's best spinners for six risked his job as England captain in a who-blinks-first contest with Peter Moores and the ECB.

There's something terribly English about the whole sorry shaboodle. Just as the Australian team looks to be at its weakest in a quarter of a century, with a home Ashes series just around the corner and barely a ticket left for any of the five Tests, English cricket has taken careful aim and shot itself in both feet.

Other countries lose their head coach. Others lose captains. It's to be expected. But it takes a special kind of skill to lose both coach and captain on the same morning." - continues.....

The last sentence just sums it all up really..... Roll Eyes

Pietersen (SA) = Silly Arse.

Pietersen has a history of falling out with teams: he has already left his country (South Africa) and his adopted county (Nottinghamshire) under a cloud. So no big surprise that Silly Arse has thrown his toys out of his pram again.

England would do well to drop him for a series. He could do well to grow up a bit out of the public eye.

In the Times today; the Aussies call KP 'Figjam'; F**k I'm good, just ask me.

Pretty much sums up the Arse that KP is. Let him go and play in the IPL and never ever play for England again.
