Is the XS a Hint?

Posted by: pcstockton on 06 December 2008

Could the XS arrival point to an external Naim DAC in the future?

See ya Supernait. It was nice knowing ya.

OK good Smile I accept your explanation, the trouble with the written word is that things can be read out of context.

"Even my dealer feels the heat and feels that he has to distance himself from me as if my name were "BLAGO" and I was trying to sell a senate seat or something. "

Not distancing myself, Blago. That would be a great handle. Just making all aware that our opinions are our own and I also thought the US reference was more encompasing. My personal needs or general overview aren't exactly the same as yours and so my thoughts aren't identical either. We're however definitely on the same page. Big Grin Earlier there were many implications that we were posting in tandem and I just wanted to put that to rest once and for all. We have never discussed a post with each other before doing so.

too much testosterone for me.

This US guy will be at home tonight being perfectly content with his system not worrying about a DAC. I will be in my listening chair with a glass of vino. The only thing that will interrupt me will be the short walk to the hi-fi rack to flip over that 33 1/3 LP to side B of Coltranes "stardust sessions". After that it will be "Cannonball Adderly". The Rega P3 never sounded so good!!!!

Thanks js, mark, ken @ PM. See you soon.
Happy Holidays All.....

rega1 OUT!!!

Unfortunately, I think Adam gave me the "US" title as sort of a bullseye instead of a "Gary differentiating factor." But I'm tough and if it means taking all the British "flac" for all U.S. residents I'm up for the challenge.

JS, if you've seen the news this am you'll get this one: I read you loud and clear Jessie (Jr.) Cool

I am a US resident - and have not received any British "flac" in my 5 years of membership on this forum.

Glad you are happy with your HDX. As I said before different strokes for different folks - I have heard both (DS and HDX) and have my opinion. You need to listen to the Linn and only then can you pass judgement on its performance - otherwise your comments are just here-say and speculation.

JS
I know that you also think highly of the HDX - as you rightfully should. As I suggested to you several months ago - you were once a Linn dealer - you really owe it to yourself to try and have a listen as I think that you would be rather impressed.

Kindest Regards
Gregg

I still feel strongly about the LP12. Never commented on their DACs as I've never had them in a controlled environment. I'm sure they're good. I remember the Linn/Naim conflict in the states and always thought it was over the top. There were some distribution issues at one time that turned a lot of dealers off to Linn in general. Personaly, I've always preferred the Naim equivalent but when I tried other hi end electronics, it often made me appreciate that Linn still had a clue. Of course their lifestyle products never rang my bell and I generally found all their kit too polite. As for the HDX, it's the best I've come across as a complete solution but I still prefer Naim's top players for CDs.

As a side note, I just tried DBpoweramp for rips and really like it's interface and tagging. Wave info is easily transferrred to other players like MM but I haven't tried it with ITunes which is fussy about importing data as I've removed it from my PC.

I'm currently having a laugh voicing a Beresford equivalent with bits I have laying around. I picked it up for $80 US. Maybe I'll use it on my cable box. Just a bit bored in the current economic climate. Maybe pcStockton or paremus would like a snicker. They have setups that don't rely on reclocking which this aint got.

Gregg, you weren't the one who wrote the Lavry write-up. I was and eveything else stems from that point. Even the way in which you have replied to both myself and JS regarding the same point (HDX) illustrates my point above. Quod erat demonstrandum.

In fact if I re-call correctly you were very interested in the Lavry and posted several times of your high expectations in demoing the product. You were waiting for some speakers to arrive before you could demo the kit. I've noticed that unlike Kuma who got a hold of one after the huge debate ended and actually took a stand and posted his less than flattering remarks about its performance, you have actually never commented upon the Lavry. Did you ever demo the kit or have you decided to just keep silent about your findings to avoid any blowback? Your silence speaks volumes I dare say.

Never commented on the Linn DS products as I haven't heard them. I made that clear and stated that explicitly in my post above. No heresay and speculation whatsoever.

I'm just amazed that people can actually read and interpret anything that they want into someone's written words and believe that they see what they want to see. Gregg, this is not the first time that you have done this. Unreal

Not quite Gary - Every time I comment it is in direct reply to someone's post.

Previous postings of yours on many other threads have alluded to the quality of the Linn product - all comments made without having heard the kit.

When I post in this forum and pass judgement on kit it is only if I have PERSONALLY demoed it - otherwise I do not post.

Yes - The DS line is good - obviously the Klimax is the one but $18K (ouch) - (although there is a 10% off going on right now). Re your comment on the HDX I am with you - quite good - but I prefer my CDS3 Big Grin

Gee, and along I thought I thought you chose the handle in homage to the legendary Gary U.S. Bonds... Smile
