Sorry Paul. Tell you what, why don't I bring my black Strat (maple neck) too. We could hi-jack Redeye's toyworld, call it "caster island" and make all the hi-fi geeks walk the plank. Bags the eyepatch.

Or call it "Casterway". Make it into a tv show ?

Twenty faded Fender slingin' musicians from the world of pop & rawk, every week arguing about strings, plectrums etc.
Each week we get to kill one, er I mean vote one off the island. Each week's winner gets a 30min slot for a wailin' guitar solo ?

Hosted by Prowla & Minky(in revealing bikini) ?

My favourite Toy I sadly no longer have. It was the Nakamichi RX202 which I bought when it came out back in the early 80s. Having a Nak for duping Dead bootlegs was always de rigeur and the 202 (and 303/505) was especially helpful when you just couldn't make it to the stereo to turn the tape over.... Wink

It was a real hit at parties and even pretty girls couldn't keep their hands off it - doubtless mesmerised by the balletic tape flipping mechanism rather than it's handsome, charismatic owner.....

The mechanism itself wasn't very reliable. It used to get a case of the wobbles every now and again which Nakamichi was never able to completely cure. I did however hang onto it longer than any of the others I had - I only sold it a few years ago after I decided some consolidation of my Nakamichis was in order.

The story does lead to the "one that got away" or rather the favourite toy that should have been but sadly wasn't. I used to have a Sony WDM6 Professional tape recorder. On the face of it a fantastic piece of miniaturisation and perfect for b**tlegging. This unit was raved about in reviews as being the next best thing to a Nakamichi. Sadly mine wasn't. Not even close. Even a replacement unit, while marginally better, showed wow and serious azimuth alignment problems which were never satisfactorily fixed. These could be somewhat ameliorated by using very expensive Maxell or TDK Metal tapes with the metal or ceramic (?) shells but overall I found the machine a big disappointment.

Judging by the rave reviews I must have been unlucky, surely?

My first portable Sony MiniDisc recorder/player.
It meant my trips to Australia with 25+ albums weighed much less thus avoiding those dreaded "excess baggage" charges.
It also meant if I lost the discs, I still had the originals at home :-)

It also meant I could travel around with all of the music with me.

It also meant that I was the centre of attention as at the time as many folk had never seen MD and couldn't believe that I had so much music in my pocket!

I still have that machine, an MZ30 but sadly it can no longer record since it was slightly crushed en-route to Sydney in my hold luggage.....

I now have a decent CD collection out there and a newer MZ90 Mini Disc for the beach :-)

Computers are supposed to work on 1's and 0's - in other words "Yes" or "No" - why does mine frequently say "Maybe"?......

I remember back in the early 70's a friend's dad had an Akai cassette deck that turned the tape over at the end of the side.
It was a top-loader and flipped the tape end-over end using some kind of mechanism.
I always wanted one.

kid spatula - Now, the Minimoog was(is) a great instrument.
I always wanted some Moog Taurus bass pedals... (Something to do with having a Rickenbacker bass, I think!)

Not with the MiniDisc you don't! (Assuming I can use the supplied headphones of course)

My 1200+ cd's collection Big Grin.
Oh, Naca 5 too, well, maybe that sounds strange to you, but (what? hey, no, it is not some kind of fetish shit, ha ha) this have much in common with my audio career crossroad and it was caused by Naca 5. I was been fooled with some idiots before I tried Naca 5 and I was even have a hot conversation with Rico (Hey Rico, how are you), but good people convince me to try and yes, this was a missing link...yepeee.

Glad someone mentioned Audio-Technica. My 3 favourite toys are/were:

1. The vibrator (mentioned above)
2. The Safety Raiser (ho ho) which doesn't work on the LP12 (too wobbly) but may work on the Roksan TMS2 if I can rob a bank to buy one
3. The ATH-8 electret headphones which sounded wonderful throughout the 80s and which I bought in a sale in Bristol for £9.99 (retail about £100).

That's it ! I've got to have one of these Tivoli jobbies. What makes them so good ?

My latest installation is wonderful!

What is it?????

After waiting for months for my usual electricians to come and install my Xantech remote extender system (which I actually purchased at the end of May!) I finally gave up waiting and fitted it myself.....
No mean feat crawling under the floor for 60 feet trailing a length of cable... Not even space under the floorto crawl and I had to lie down and move like Spiderman :-(
Very old, dusty house (under the floor!) with walls under the floor with holes really too small to get through, but I perservered and did!

I can now control the main system sited in the drawing room from the study!!!!
No more running the length of the house to change volume, play discs again, switch to tuner or shout down the phone when someone calls!
Total bliss and should have done it myself months ago :-)

My Akai CR81D 8track cartridge recorder - a) 'cos no-one uses them anymore and b) because it's built like a brick outhouse - oh, and c) 'cos I paid £20 for it in 1998 and they go for almost £200 on Ebay Smile
