NEVER do business with these people

ALLIED MOVERS (NZ) LTD.

We've just moved across town (from Central Christchurch to Cashmere) and we decided to use a "professional" moving company that is well-established throughout New Zealand.

We paid a per-hour rate for three workers and a truck. We were moving to a house with a difficult driveway that is narrow and has a difficult sloping bit. We conveyed all this information to the moving company. We followed all of their directions as to packaging.

They were utterly useless. Only one of the workers was experienced. He was training the other two on time we were paying for - such basic things as how to use cable ties FFS! This was just the start of a litany of bullshit that lasted for several hours and culminated in them lying around on the road for nearly two hours waiting for a truck that could get up the difficult driveway we told them about and transferring the heavier pieces to that truck, driving the smaller truck up the fifteen metres of straight driveway and unloading it again. We're still not sure how much of that time was charged.

We rang their boss to complain about the standing around. He escalated it to higher management - who then rang the dickhead in charge at the uplift location and asked him if he was working. Not suprisingly, the dickhead told his boss that he was working. The manager got back in touch to relay this information to us (just in case we hadn't heard him standing in our driveway telling his boss this startling fact on his cellphone.)

They gave us a feedback form as they left...

I hate moving, we've had numerous 'respected' companies move us. Things disappear (including a vase worth £200). Paying by the hour is stressful as they seem to stretch things out more. Moved house 3 times last year. Please, please, no more.

When we last moved, thankfully some 12 years ago now, we had an interesting experience. The removal company carefully backed up our drive at about 10am, taking great care to avoid a canopy type porch over the back door and started the loading. At 12.00 we received the nod from our solicitors to say everything had gone through and at bout 12.30 we decided to get going. The removal firm then promtly moved forward and took the canopy porch roof clean off. Tiles and roof timbers spread everywhere!

By then the house didn't belong to us, so we had to leave a note pinned to the door telling the new owners who were arriving at 6.00 that evening that they would have to make a claim on thier insurance or pursue our removal company. I gather our removal company met the bill.

What a lovely moving in pressent!!

Hi Garry

The removal company's motor vehicle insurance coverage would have been liable fo rthe damage as it was caused by the motorised vehicle.

The removal company would have (most likely) separate insurance for own and third party damage to goods in transit but it would be theis motor insurer that would have paid up.

No different than if a friend visiting you did the damage with a private car!

Thanks Pat

I didn't want to get involved but, I'm sure you're correct. I didn't ask too many questions as it was all a bit embarassing!

Better to pay, as a customer rather than an employer for the job well done, than by the hour methinks.
