Hit with the ugly stick

Post pictures of otherwise great hifi equipment that you simply could never own due to their overwhelmingly obnoxious aesthetic.....(IYHO)

Sorry, but....! Big Grin (Not obnoxious by the way, just plain ugly !)

Every speaker Naim has made, except the NSats.
Though,it would not stop me from owning the SBLs after my next move. Probably will be hook up to top line Olive boxes. (Also no beauty winner.)

Funny how we are all different... I think the DBLs are the most attractive speakers ever made.

This is pretty special too ! I have no idea how it sounds, but judging from it's looks.... Roll Eyes

Actually, perhaps I was a little harsh on the DBL's considering the post title - it was just an obvious reaction! I guess there is something to be said of their monolith slab-esq minimal qualities....

I've heard this Shanling once Steve and it sounded pretty good. As its made in China, they can be bought in Hong Kong comparatively cheap. Whether you like the space age looks or not is another matter.

No wonder why they've been made for your ears and not your eyes. Big Grin

Any big amp with handles on the front of the casework is ugly, according to my personal tastes.

Bye.

Now that (Shanling), is ugly. I never buy on looks. In this case, I would make an exception.

That Shanling CD player looks like a nuclear bomb, but the counter on the front don't deplete but increment, that's the clue that tells you it's actualy a CD player.

Don't hang it over the neighbor's windows with a fishing cane, as they may panic at believing they just saw an alien flying saucer.

Bye.

I agree with you Stoik, although I've always had a bit of a soft spot for Plinius's aesthetics....

I've never really understood what any of those handles on the front of cases are actually for !?

Sorry Yo-Yo.
Posted on: 28 January 2009 by joe90
Anything from these clowns.
Posted on: 28 January 2009 by joe90
Oops. My bad.

I wouldn't own it for any reason at all.

Nor anything from Linn.

I'll leave the debate on the merits of Meridian kit to one side, but I would have to disagree that their kit actually looks ugly...!?

Don't worry, those who put those handles there surely don't really know either. Winker

Seriously, it's a distorted heritage from rack mounting, like they do in the pro sound domain.

Bye.

Those handles come in handy when you try to remove the kit off the shelf!
Rack mount ears are the left over practice from the Pro era, too. ( altho, they can supply a faceplate without )

I think meridian have always made very attractive kit, never missed a beat as far as I can tell. Even the picture joe posted looks fine to me.

I can never decide whether I like the looks of Cyrus cases or not...I kinda do, but then a voice in my head keeps telling me the front looks like it was designed by a 16yr old who's just discovered a set-square...!
Posted on: 28 January 2009 by kuma
Cyrus kit looks all right.

They just look like a car stereo.

They do seem to make some of the worst looking kit I've ever seen; heard a few pieces and found it looked better than it sounded. Though haven't heard the really ugly CD player pictured above.

Most valve kit looks pretty ugly to me - even when styled by some of the best
