why don't people put their gear in their public profiles?

...perhaps this is a padded cell question - if it is forgive me for my misplacement.
But, I was wondering

Beats me SJ!
Some newer members fail to do it out of ignorance or perhaps shyness which is excussable, but other prolific posters do it intentionally. Presumably they think that as they post so frequently, that we all know exactly what they have, but for people like me who visit here far less frequently than I once did, it's a pain in the arse.

And some of the most prolific posters have a habit of admonishing people for not having details in their profile, whilst their own profile is also empty!
Shocking!

Personally I find it completely irrelevant for 99% of the time. I added my stuff to profile only because of the whinging received about its absence; but really, to me, it makes no difference one way or the other. On the 1% of occasions where it may be relevant, folks can say they have x or y bit of kit if it helps to validate comments - that's what I used to do. Maybe I'll revert to that, makes sense really - thanks for reminding me!!

..and since we're in this vein. Does anybody know what does it take for the Supreme Powers that Be, to allow one to use a signature? (e.g our kit?)

I noticed something weird... I can't change my profile info anymore.
I can only see the info I once filled in but it's not possible to change any of it.
Anyone else noticed/has this in their profile ?
regards,
Alco

Alonso,
Problem is the software that hosts this forum does not allow signatures and you only have 45 minutes to edited your post as well. So most of us put a silly/profound comment in our location boxes.

Hi Alco.
Yes, I’ve heard about this before – My suggestion for an explanation would be that at sometime in the past there was a need to remove the edit facility in your profile?
My suggestion would be to email HQ and request this feature to be reinstated and see how you get on.
Regarding profiles: I think it would be helpful for other users if they at least had an idea of what other members were using. Fixedwheel is right with his observation and I think the Forum would become an even friendlier and better place to chat if this were so, as it’s nice to have a bit of an idea as to who you’re talking to and their experience and/or experiences.

Change the software!! The user facilities on this forum are like something out of the Dark Ages. For a world market-leading and innovative technology-based firm, what image does that present?

It would be nice to keep an evolution of equipment in the profiles too.
I like to look at older System Pics threads and when I click on the profile to see what the gear was back then it may have been updated to reflect the latest upgrades.
It would be nice for people to keep the old system profile if it were posted in the older pic thread ... just a thought ...

Thanks for the reminder, as I updated my actual amp for the Nait XS into my profile... 6 months after the actual acquisition!
Bye.

James,
I get the feeling Naim like it this way otherwise they would change, no?

Why don't I have permission to use signatures? Who has it and what have they done to be more worthy than me??
This is what I see:
"Signature:
You do not have permission to use signatures."

You don't have PM facilities because you lot can't be trusted not to try and sell each other stuff.
It is a bit weird that NAIM didn't ask for an "equipment" slot on the profile.
Just put your kit list in the Bio slot.

Personally I think it's useful if profiles are maintained. There are some who crticise others when their own is empty. Shocking.

Providing useful location information eg country or region avoids providing of redundant information that is not relevant to the location of the poster.

Because they don't. It's their choice.

yeah I updated my info, since I had to change a 3rd time when I got a new iMac couldn't log on as Wolf2, irritating.
I'd like to see where people are from it just helps adjust replies.
