Nait 2 v Nait 3

Posted by: ColinJ on 09 January 2004

Hello All

This is my very first posting and would ask you bear with me.

I have the opportunity to purchase either amplifier as I am looking to invest in a second system for the bedroom. Unfortunately I will not have the opportunity to demo them because of my location in relation to where they are. Therefore, I would be grateful for your advise and guidance on the following:-

A) I would appreciate comments on how they compare against each other?

B) As I am new to the game of purchasing pre-owned equipment, can someone please advise on a fair price for each one. I believe the Nait 2 is 1992 and Nait 3 a 1994 model.

C) Would the CD3.5 be the ideal CDP as the source.

Thanks for your assistance!!

I have never compared them side by side so take this or leave it, but the 2 is regarded by many as the pick of the litter. I don't know what they go for these days, but whatever you decide both of them will benefit from a re-cap by Naim at 10 years old (not expensive and they will sound like new). A CD3.5 will be just fine and dandy as the source. Any thoughts on speakers?

Thanks for the advice Jez. I assume it is best to contact Naim to get an idea of cost on a re-cap.

I have not thought about speakers at this stage but again, I would appreciate some sage advice.

Dear Colin
I'm an happy owner of both of them.
They are different, the first is more smooth and refined (jazz-oriented); the latter is more powerful and fast (a good choice for rock).
A re-cap is mandatory for both.
I currently run Nait 3 with Dynaudio Audience 52.
Hope this help.

Dear Daniele

I am looking more for a system to play rock as I us the main system, for jazz, clasical as well as rock/pop. I had a demo on the Audience 52's last year and was very impressed with the way they handled rock music. To me, they seem a good speaker for parties. If I had not decided on a 202/200 combination and gone with the Nait5 instead, I would have purchased them.

Thanks for the advice, I think the 3 may be my best option.
