Suggestion for Improving the Naim Forum
Posted by: Unstoppable on 30 July 2007
Why not rename the Home Theatre Forum ? Calling it simply 'Visual Arts', as they do in other forums. As it is, the title suggest people crawling around on all fours trying to figure out the cables on their 5.1 systems.
The Visual Arts thing would open up discussions to old TV programs, historic material or even an occasional thread on the paintings sculpture ect. The result: more people posting , getting into their movie/DVD collections and (therefor) more viable customers for Naim's Home Theatre gear. No bad thing I would suppose for Naim Inc.
As it is the topic is somewhat moribund with few bothering to post.
Just an idea.

Good grief Mick, lighten up, he only typed Abracadabra. Just a little light humour!

BTW I like the forum format, a bit clunky, but other forums like slashdot really annoy me.

Mick has yet to make a light-hearted post on the Naim Forum. He is a superior gentleman and doesn't waste time on light-heartedness.

There is a difference between light heart-heartedness and brain dead drivel.
The volume of inputs as reduced considerably over the last year or two mainly because brain dead morons have taken over and decent people have got bored with them and moved on.
I am soon shooting off for a few weeks in Spain and when I return I am going to kick these oiks into touch. This forum is too good to let it be slowly starngled to death by by a bunch of festering plebs. The policy of staying away and not logging on is allowing them to take over and that is morally wrong.
If something is good it is worth fighting for and it is time these chavs were kicked out.
Regards
Mick

Orf to Spain again Parry? Torremolinos's loss is our gain. Upon your return I look forward to reading your intellectual posts about rhubarb and wet weather cycling gear.

Maybe Mick is planning on upgrading the forum by spending some of his hard-earned (
) cash on some more consumer goods and asking the chaps here about the pros and cons of the more expensive choices?

One thing's for sure - this bickering does not add anything constructive or improve the Forum.
Perhaps a group hug is called for?

But it's soooo entertaining...

Personally I'd like to see a wider range of smileys.
Especially ones that are abusive and do rude signs.
It would save so many such a lot of typing.

A "lecturing" smiley, a "happy like a kid with a new toy" smiley, a "remaining patient while actually being slightly vexed over a new thread about something that could easily be looked up with the 'find' utility rather than starting a new thread " smiley. There could be plenty.

Nice to see that modern interpretations of the corinthian spirit are alive and well.

However, research shows that it is an inevitable consequence whenever people use social software.

A smiley that could be useful(not tongue in cheek):
flammable(something with matches i guess): "this comment contains elements that risk to inflame tempers and ruin a perfectly good thread. It possibly would reduce the risk if you showed evidence of your good faith, for example by clarifying some parts to avoid misunderstandings, or by rephrasing them in a less confrontational manner."

I think the reason this forum is in terminal decline is the very lack of abusive confrontations. The remaining rats on this sinking ship are all too polite.

Perhaps the remaining rats also know how to type a constructive debate, rather than slag somebody off!

Couldn't agree more - it is rather tame around here these days, IMHO.

Perhaps there should be prize for the most timid rat left here, who would presumably also be the most polite? :-)
In my view one of the real problems is that apart from discussing music, there is only so much to say about replay. Once it is said then what is said again is only repetition. Thus, perhaps, the Forum is doomed from its inception. I am sure it has nothing to do with the lack of bad manners! Bad manners are in good supply even now - actually in some ways it is getting worse, for the worst manners are displayed by the people with the least to say it seems. In the olden days sometimes the manners were terrible, but usually something of substance was being driven at.

There has been an advance recently in that the 300 uber alles gang have been slightly shook by a pro 500 experience from one of the members.
