hi anyone else using a REL. I would appreciate any set up advise regarding mode\phase settings.

Karly,

Did you ever locate the reason for the change in sound?
Did you reconnect the Storm, and if so, did it make your system sound worse again?

I placed my Q100 in a corner of my room, I understand that corners actually aid the bass response of a sub.
As for setup. I use the high level connections for stereo duties and the low level connection with my AV amp for movies/TV.
To setup I'd recommend that you get a test frequency disk which has frequency spanning. That will make your life 20 times easier to judge what levels to set your roll off frequency and gain controls.
(if you really struggle, give me a shout and I'll burn you a copy of mine).
After that, it's a lot of trial and error. Must have taken a good month for me to get mine to an acceptable level.
In short, you can hardly hear in running in normal operation, but if you turn it off, you can tell it's missing. That's apparently how it should be.

Karly (and others)

I recommend visiting this recent thread:
http://forums.naim-audio.com/eve/forums?a=tpc&s=67019385&f=48019385&m=9951927136
You will find interesting info on how to and how NOT to connect up a Rel sub in a Naim steup.

It includes mail from Richard Lord himself, who is the CEO of Rel .

Definitely worth a read. Helped me get the best from my Rel sub

So does everyone use the supplied lead and take the signa from the amps output as sugested by Rel or has anyone tried taking the signal from the speaker terminals?

I have been using a REL storm for quite a while, though after a recent experiment where I was trying to locate the source of some buzzing coming through my speakers after I bought a CDi and a HiCap, I totally disconnected everything except my CDI/72/hicap/140/eposES14 and I was astonished at how much better the sound was. Im not saying the REL was to blame, but just something to bear in mind. (I havent had time to try to locate what was actually the cause)
Anyway, that aside, I use the storm in normal phase (reversed sounds weird, like some kind of sound vacuum!), and have the other tuning knobs set to the deepest (ie, least boomy) and have the 'volume' turned about 1/3. Its also currently placed inbetween my speakers and doubles as an excellent TV stand! Also use the amp outputs via the Neutrik connnector, sounds tonnes better than the line level input which is totally pants.

Sorry about that "blank" , I accidentally hit the mouse button.

If you check out the thread I mentioned you will see in my last mail that I now have the REL's high level input connected via the terminals on the backs of the speakers (connect both + terminals BUT only one - terminal).

This works well. Earlier attempts at the speaker output terminals on the back of the amp (150) did not work well at all, the amp started making crackling sounds at the speakers.
Using a spare output on my hiCap seemed to work BUT was not as good as the final setup at the speaker terminals
