More on the Evo and power supply

I did some more detailed listening comparisons using the Evo with the rechargeable lithium battery (Supplied by Purite Audio)and the Maplin 9v linear power supply. I was surprised by the differences.

When using the lithium battery the sound was open and detailed. When using the power supply most of the benefits of the Evo were lost. Imaging was much less defined and the sound lacked the detail and warmth that the lithium battery supplied Evo offers. This was most clearly evident when playing a high resolution file of 'Helpless' from Neil Young's 'Acrhives' (The file was ripped from Blu-Ray discs).

From my listening, it is clearly evident that the power supply makes a big difference to the Evo and I have no doubt that more options for powering the unit will soon become available. When I spoke with Keith this afternoon, he indicated that he had already disccused this with Marco at M2Tech and that he had had discussions with a couple of specialist power supply manufacturers. Keith did say that when using a different digital output interface, he had added a dedicated high quality supply and it had made no difference so it appears that there is not a clearly identifiable preference at present.

I am sure that Marco and the worldwide importers importers of the Evo will work on this issue and that in time, they will be able to advise on a wider range of options for powering the Evo.

There is no doubt that while we await further recommendation and/or product availability, the Evo powered by the rechargeable Lithium-ion battery provides a top quality interface. You won't be disappointed if you are currently a Hiface user!

You've already been able to test the combo? Have you reached any conclusions?

I haven't been able to test the combination of Evo/Paul Hynes SR3 yet.

My power supply was due to ship on 23rd January but Paul is a couple of weeks behiand schedule owing to the bad weather at the end of last year.

I will report as soon as the power supply is in my system

I'm almost done integrating both the EVO and the Paul Hynes into one box. The Hynes has been recapped with some Blackgate and Mundorf caps. The Hynes power connection has also been wired directly to the EVO. Power cord  is a house brand (Oyaide connector)  made by the same guy who did the work on the unit after I dreamed it up. http://www.triplejaudio.com.  They sounded good before and even better now, much more coherent.  With a huge benefit of all the cables now running in one direction.  I’ve also got it in a box that matches the rest of my equipment.  Next step will be to see what happens in terms of adding a seperate clock.

Do anyone use Teddy Evo powersupply? I have liked it a lot. I haven't compared it to anything though. It is definitely not slow with ndac+dc1

Hi, Olli. Did you have a chance to compare Teddy Evo against battery pack?

Unfortunately no. It would be nice to compare evo and battery pack. Teddy is so easy. Just plug it in and no recharching. Sound very fine. I don't know if battery pack would be better.
