quadraspire QAV tables
Posted by: Haddock on 03 February 2003
Does anybody have any experience of using the Quadraspire QAV tables with Naim.
I need to find a new way of supporting my equipment now that my CDs are outgrowing the shelves in my press (cupboard) and are pushing the hi fi out.
I don't want a "tower" rack so the QAV tables look to fit the bill, they're much wider so I can get more than one piece per shelf.

The QAV table is quite different to the standard table. It uses thicker shelves (25mm instead of 19) and the thicker uprights. You also need to check the width to ensure two full-width items will fit. I'm pretty sure you'll be OK but it's worth checking. Sonically, I'm not sure if it's better. If you have the space you'd probably be better off with two racks next to each other since there's the interplay between the equipment on the larger shelves of the QAV. You can simply order a Q4C with ttwo extra isolation shelves. This would give you two 3-tier stands. Finally, if you decide to go for a QAV, you should check the price against Hutter. I think the ballpark figures are £500 for the QAV and about £550 for the Hutter AV in which case I would choose the Hutter since the standard racks are usually better sonically than the standard Quadraspire.

I have had a QKAV cabinet for the last year, which currently houses CD5, NAC112, NAP150, FC2 and DVD player with 28" TV on top.
It was selected purely on the grounds of living room aesthetics and because I got it in a half price deal from last years Bristol show!
Although I have not done listening tests vs anything else I am very happy with the sound I have (full Naim only for the last 6 weeks or so) and it must degrade the sound by less than my unimproved electricity supply!
Whats more, I think the 5 series logos look v cool behind the sandblasted glass doors.

I have my Naim on a Q4 Ref, and my (big) TV and AV stuff on a matching QAV large in rosenut & black.
The DVD & video are side by side, and they fit nicely between the columns. The gap is 890mm, which can take 2 x Naim style full width units at 430mm snugly.
It is very solid and well made. Each shelve can take 90 kgs, which is important if you have a crate size TV.
It also as a high WAF versus a black only unit.
I don't know about sound quality, as this is less of a major issue on TV AV than on the Hi-Fi.

Thanks everyone. Have any of you tried the QAV with the skinny supports, the QS web site shows that you can use them with the QAV tables, I always thought you had to use the thicker ones.
