MP3 players

My son's about to buy one and has decided on one of the Creative models. He was thinking on the Micro as it's smaller than the Touch, the difference being storage of 5GB compared to 20 or 40GB.

Does anybody have any experience of these things? I think he should go for the 20GB version but is that overkill? Is the 5GB of the Micro a real restriction?

Any advice you guys can offer would be greatly appreciated.

I sent my Micro back for a refund having owned it for three days. It has a serious design flaw with the headphone socket. Even treating the thing with kid-gloves I experienced 4 or 5 instances of sound drop-out in one channel. The socket doesn't take kindly to knocks of any degree of force. Avoid like the plague!

As much as I prefer the sound of the thing to an iPod, problems like these are simply too much hassle. The navigation system of the iPod is also significantly more user friendly and has perfectly weighted sensitivity compared to the Micro which seems to decide by itself when it can be bothered to respond... Dammit! I have been converted!

FYI, should also add that I had 491 songs on the Micro with a small amount of space to spare. All tracks at 320 bitrate.

Thanks guys. I posted this and then noticed there was an almost identical earlier post. When you've got a 16 year old music lover with a hole burning in his pocket from his first properly earned wages it's hard not to try and help him find the best model to blow his money on. Bad grammar I know but I'm a bit tired at the moment.

Thanks.

Creative Touch - superb sound quality, good ergonomics, much cheaper than Apple.

No!! Don't listen to him!! Get the Ipod!!! It sounds better, and there is a whole universe of useless accessories to bankrupt your son with! Second thoughts, there is a (far) less chance of being mugged for the Zen! Winker
On a serious note, the software for the Zen is a nightmare. Took me over a week of pulling my hair out before I worked out how to get a song onto the damm thing. Anyway, the Ipod Nano has just come out - that should be worth a peek. have fun!!
