are you sure that is not the reszult of Mrs Palin wondering what that cutesy liddle buddon is on her new desk in da whitey house.

Or a view of Alaska when mr Obama the man from Kenya wins the current election.

Funny why is he referred to as BLACK when he is not .

He is Mixed Race. And has never said anything other than this.

regards David.

HMMMMMM 2 years to elect a president for a 4 year term.

I rekon you could wipe out the US of A's debt if all the money from electioneering went to this .

Obama is an African-American, and like almost all African-Americans he has black and white heritage. Since his father was an African black, and his mother an American white, it's probably close to a 50/50 split unless there was any white ancestry on his father's side (unlikely), or any black ancestry on his white mother's side (a more common occurrence than one might think). Obviously one would have to have a DNA analysis to know for sure, but most African-Americans have at least some white ancestry; some have a lot, as much or even more than Obama.

However, all that aside, if one didn't know his lineage and just saw a photo one would definitely perceive him as a black person, a person of color, definitely not as Caucasian.

If he had been in the Deep South during the height of the KKK do you think they would welcome him as one of their own or lynch him? Don't you think that the fact that neo-Nazis have already plotted to kill "the nigger" is proof enough that he's perceived more so as black than white?

Beyond his skin color, his identity is with African-American culture. He identifies as black. Black people perceive him as black, and even more importantly, know all too well that no matter how much white lineage one has, if one is perceived as black, one is black.

Best,
Fred

I agree that the election process is too long (longer this cycle than ever before) and too expensive, but then that's unfettered free market capitalism, isn't it?

However, as expensive as this election cycle has been (around $2.5 billion at this point) it doesn't even begin to scratch the surface of the USA debt, which is currently at $10.5 trillion.

It's hard to wrap one's mind around these astronomical numbers, but I've found an easy way to appreciate their size: think of each dollar as one second of time ... 2.5 billion seconds is roughly 80 years; 10.5 trillion seconds, however, is 336,000 years! As you can see, the difference is much easier to understand now, isn't it?

All best,
Fred

Dear Fred,

taking your analogy further.

if you are african and you have a child with a caucasian person is the child?

Mixed race,

Half white

Half black

or simply black as you have few caucasian features.

semantics i know as colour racial group should be irrelevant but playing the race card when one is not AFRICAN AMERICAN bit is EUROPEAN/AFRICAN/AMERICAN.

Why are not whites referred to as European Americans.

Also why are people of Spanish/Portuguese heritage not considered white when in Europe they are.

Confused

So, is a pink skinned person who was born in South Africa and now a US citizen an african american? Just wondering..I also heard that in South Africa, asian people are classified as white. I generally try not to use race as a classification when I talk, but it is really hard. IMHO race is a social construct devised several hundred years ago by an anthropologist as a very clumsy and non-scientific way to classify humans.
