Cables with which unit ?

Posted by: Roy Donaldson on 28 August 2003

Hi there,

I've had my Naim units in and running for a number of years now and being about to put them in boxes to move them I realised that I can't remember what cable goes with what unit ? So, can anyone help fill in what I should put with which unit:

NAC 72:

NAP 140:

Flatcap:

I have 2 cables and a shorting plug.

Also, if I were to buy an AV2, does it come with any cabling at all ?

Thanks,
Roy.

I think Naim have downloadable manuals in Acrobat PDF format.
(Not sure where though!)

NAC72 - nothing
FC - 5-5 pin Din
140 - 4-4 pin DIN

The AV2 comes with a power cable and a 'reversed' CD-type 5-5 pin DIN (close pins) that DOESN"T work as a CD interconnect. What it's for is to plug the AV2 from it's 3rd VIPS input to the AV input on a current series Nait or preamplifier, in order to allow gain matching. That means a stereo power amp can be used as a slave to the AV2, without getting in the way of a stereo preamp that is in the system as well.

A good dealer should be able to show you this.

if you cannot find the connections guide you could always put teent Tippex dots that match cable to socket - a combination of dots, dashes or even numbers would do the trick - unless you have already disconnected them, of course...

I put little labels with string ties on them at each end of my cables, and write where they go.
