AV cables for new house

Posted by: Jonathan on 08 October 2006

Im building a house and need to instal new cables for my AV system - I want to instal cables that I will need in the future as they will be prefitted into ducting. Budget is flexible - but I dont want to spend crazy money - sort of NACA5 levels.

I need the following - one set of each about 4m long from DVD to Plasma (now)/HD LCD 1080p (soon) and 10m long from DVD to Projector.

HDMI
Component
Regular AV
S-Video
PC monitor cable (15pin) - just in 4 metres.
1 metre scart - just one

Could anyone recommend some reasonable cost options (brand/type) - The HDMI / component to the projector and PC to the Plasma will get the most use. The others are more backup options.

Thanks in advance for a complex question....

Jonathan

ps: somewhere to buy them that will ship to Greece would be great to know too....

How do you intend to cross-connect your various sources to two different displays?

You could look at using something like this:

http://www.dvdo.com/pro/pro_isvp30_io.php

Connect a single HDMI cable from the digital output of this box to the projector and connect a BNC-to-VGA cable from the analog output to the plasma. All your sources plug into this box (regardless of connection type) and you just have a single cable going to each display.

Not only is it a video+audio switching hub but it also handles picture calibration of each source, lip-sync delay for each source and a very high quality de-interlacer and scaler (pretty important for SD sources going into your HD plasma).

Thanks - I mainly use PC output (with RGBtoVGA converter) for digi satellite to Plasma and component to projector - so dont really need to change connections too often. Still, very interesting suggestion - I will read more on the web.
