What a race. Short of penguins on the track I think this race had almost everything.
Oh by the way LEWIS HAMILTON WON

That was a hell of a crash. They were reporting him as having a broken leg by the end of the race - but conscious throughout.
From that race start, it looks like Alonso might not be coping awfully well with having a rookie team mate who is at least his equal.

Great to see LH get his first win but even better to know that RK is ok bar a broken leg. That's the worst accident i've seen in a long time, and i admit, i feared the worst.
James Allen can be such a cock, claiming that RK's arm was moving just as the car had stoppped, so he must be ok. From what i could tell, RK was out cold when the car came to a halt and the arm movements weren't vouluntary but were to do with the cars momentum.
It's times like this that you wish Murray Walker was still commentating, as he would have said as little as possible, until he was informed otherwise.
I know the drivers were against the head restraint mechanism (HANS) and the raised cockpit sides but those 2 safety features alone, have probably helped saved RK's life. I'm not sure if that was a survivable accident even 5 years ago, never mind 94...

Well done Lewis, a flawless drive. Without the safety cars, he could have won by a minute. He outraced Alonso all weekend, who must now be wondering if his rookie team-mate just might beat him to the title.
As for Kubica's crash, I felt terrible afterwards. He appeared motionless and I feared the worst. It's a miracle if he's only got a broken leg - I wish him well.

Good fun. Excellent result.
I have to say, having a seen a number of sickening crashes over the years, the ones where you find it hard to breathe yourself, somehow this never looked life threatening, spectacular yes, but you could somehow tell he had been lucky. Probably because of the amount of bodywork intact and lack of sheets around the car. Hell of a whack into that wall though.

Hamilton's story just gets more and more difficult to believe. You can argue all you like about how he has a top car etc, but Alonso is clearly feeling the pressure from him as that first corner showed.
He appears to be something a bit special.

This seems like sour grapes from a man who went gardening at least four times today...can't even bring himself to use his team-mates name..
It's going to be an interesting season...I guess Schumacher retired at the wrong time...that would be an interesting battle!!
Jim
quote:Alonso cursed the effect the safety car had on the race, saying: "It always makes the races a lottery and you need luck.
"I had to stop on lap 24, and the safety car came out on lap 24, I had to stop on lap 49-50 and it came out on lap 47, and that was the race for me.
"My team-mate benefited the most. As I said, the safety car is a lottery and there can't be a race where you are more out of luck than I have been.
"There will be other times when it will be my turn to have a good race and the rest will have all the bad luck."

I would say Hamilton's luck began and ended when he managed to avoid being side-swiped by his team mate who had out-braked himself at the first corner....Hamilton drove brilliantly from start to finish. I've seen many far more experienced drivers make a total c*ck-up of restarts from behind the safety car....Hamilton had to do it 4 times and it was perfect each time.
Presumably it was also luck that Hamilton got pole.
Re Schumaker I wonder if Ferrari are trying to tempt him back off the pit lane wall after Raikkonen's recent drives?

Regarding Schumacher, maybe he just needed a break?
Canada was the 3rd race in a row he's turned up at (And each time Kimi has a nightmare).
So much for "wanting to do other things in my life"
At some point Ferrari are going to ask him to get in the test car. just for "a bit of feedback Michael" because i get the impression they don't a word out of Kimi at the best of times.

I watched the highlights because of hearing the result on the news, but I was still bored by it and fell asleep. The adverts seem to go on forever.
I was impressed by the father who took the opportunity in the interview to send good wishes to the guy that crashed rather than anything sappy. Interesting to know what Jensen Button must be thinking now as he is relegated nationally to a Tim Henman, and Coulthard must feel like giving up (I wish he flippin' would!).
Nationality aside, anyone starting a career like this is pretty sensational. Unfortunately the news is more exciting than the sport.

Yes, it's all over the news - people are not watching Formula 1 in droves. The sport is struggling for audience, sponsors and new ideas and technology.
Oh wait, no it isn't.
Could it just be the whinging poms, then?

Schumacher once stated that he would quit when he was outdroven by others. After having been just that by Alonso for two years in a row he did quit. I don't think him seing Hamilton driving in circles around said Alonso will make him change his mind when it comes to his retirement...
A very good race, just like the CART series at it's best!

Great race - stunning and very mature drive by LH! - MB have the two best drivers at the moment -
I was at silverstone on Saturday for 60th B'day meeting of Ferrari - another young gun who drove a stunning race, beat the other drivers hand's down and in the same machinery (f430) non other than Bruno Senna - this guy i'm sure will be in F1 very soon! - watch your mirrors boy's another yellow helmet is coming up fast

I think there are tablets available to cure that!
In all seriousness, I agree with your comments on Bruno. I saw him at the Melbourne GP F3 support race in '06 and he drove very well. Having Gerhard Berger look out for him will do him no harm. He seems to be very much his own person rather than surviving on his surname as per a current Toyota F1 driver.
Kubica only has a sprained ankle (no breaks) and BMW will make a decision on Thursday as to whether he will race or not next weekend! Amazing

It was horrific. It made me feel quite sick.
Posted on: 11 June 2007 by BigH47
Bruno Senna has got to show a lot more before you put up with Ayrton or even Lewis. He has little consistancy ATM, maybe starting racing so late may hinder him. Only time will really tell.
Posted on: 12 June 2007 by BigH47
Just seen the Kubica accident on youtube. It is seen from the stands looking towards the hairpin, it shows just how close to the parked Redbull and whilst airborne that he nearly cleared the barrier separating the approach and return legs of the hairpin. If he had cleared this barrier he would having headed straight into the pack coming out of the hairpin. Almost certain to have been a fatality then IWHT.

JESUS!
Now that view is scary. The sheer speed is terrifying.
Two very lucky marshalls standing behind that Red Bull as well.

Incredible.
A 180 mph crash like that and he's got a sprained ankle.
The view from behind is terrifying - no wonder the guy in white stood on the cours gets a little excited.
Thank God Kubica's ok.

Yes I remember the days of murry and James "the shunt" on BB2 - have to admit ITV are better - but with the money so they should be, NO more adverts when the race is about to finish - Martin Brundle is a really nice guy - have met him a couple of times - lets just hope the fans keep watching as in the end we are the support they need - sponsors only follow where the people go - loss of audience loss of sponsors - QED!
Posted on: 13 June 2007 by BigH47
The only thing going for ITV is Martin Brundle and the insight features. James (now up Lewis Hamiltons arse)Allen, the main link bloke talking everything up and the advert (you won't miss anything NOT) breaks are really annoying.
I must admit I would not have cared for any more Muddly Talker, the motorsport guy from Motors with Martin Brundle would be my "dream Team" commentary wise, perhaps with some assistance by Jonny Herbert.
