Current-spec Armageddon and noise

Posted by: Top Cat on 19 August 2003

Hi folks.

Has anyone got a current-spec Armageddon (i.e. the new case) for their LP12? I'm interested in finding out your experiences with it as regards noise - both back into the mains and in terms of humming from the box and RFI from the box affecting other components.

I don't have mine yet - it, along with my revised LP12, should be ready sometime this or next week - but I'm curious about the noise situation so that I can decide where it should live on my rack and whether it should live on its own spur (as per Lingo Mk1) or 'just wherever'.

Thanks,

John

John--

I've got an olive Geddon, so this is not directly on point. However, the Geddon will want to be plugged into the same strip or block as the balance of your system--it does NOT put any kind of nasties back into the power line, unlike the Lingo.

About the only noise I ever hear from mine is the transformer vibrating when first switched on; once it settles down (about 3-5 seconds) it is silent in operation.

Since I think the only difference between the new and the olive Geddon is the case, I'd be very surprised to hear the new one does anything any differently. The new one might well be better, given the new casework.

Best,

Bob

TC,

as with any Naim box with a big tranny, there will be a magnetic field from it when it is switched on.

This needs to be kept some distance from a Naim preamp or CDP, and I'd expect the same would hold for your stuff, too.

cheers, Martin

On a related point, does the Lingo 2 require its own spur, like the Lingo, or was it improved in that respect too?
