Any difference? SBT via NAS vs USB HD 2.5 (Bus powered) vs USB HD 3.5 (Ext powered)

Hi, i intend to upgrade from 5i-2 combo to SN.

Am thinking of doing away with a CDP and go with Squeezebox Touch -> SN DAC.

Was wondering which source would be best.

SBT via
1) NAS
2) USB HD 2.5 (Bus powered)
3) USB HD 3.5 (Ext powered)

I have been reading mixed views.

Why have you settled on the sqeezebox touch, this device seems so pointless.

SB Touch is not a bad device - for a time SB was alone in the streaming world and were all we could get. SQ is fine and at least the server software is open ( unlike Sonos )and undergoing regular development. The Boulder Mods for the original SB were very highly regarded but too expensive for me.

The Touch was intended to be standalone and yes the touch screen isn't as useful as you might think but give it a good Dac and it will work better than UPnP. Mind you my cat Could design a better system than UPnP.

In short, funds are limited.

I was considering between keeping my CD5i and upgrade my amp to an XS OR
sell my 5i combo and go straight for SN.

Thought i'd go for the latter because the SN DAC would be better than the CD5i.

So, wouldn't have much left to go for a transport or CDP. Hence ended up with SBT option.

Just want to find out more if there's any difference between the sources.

How about the Qute ? - you could still plug the CD5i in for now whilst you get the streaming side going. A much better user interface than the Squeezebox.

Yes but can you honestly say UPnP is better than SBS?

I have no problems with it. In fact out of all the various solutions i've had from Squeezeboxes (both Classic and Duet), through Mac n Dac setups, the Linn solution has been faultless so for me UPnP does what it says on the tin. I don't keep fully up to date with the Naim streaming solutions but i take it that they work well with UPnP too ?

I think the difference is Squeeze Server is configurable and most UPnP servers are distinctly opaque.

Suits me - point it at my library and that's it. Why complicate things ?
