I've always thought AA Gill to be a bit of a ponce.
Maybe from now on, he'll only dine in transport caf's with all his trucker mates???

It can be as mr. Gill describes, but it can also be the best produce, cooked by chefs who really understand how best to use the product, served by great staff in nice surroundings, albeit at prices many of us baulk at.
Or anything in between.

The quote came from a restaurant review in the Times. By spooky coincidence, in explaining 'poncy' AA Gill did say that 'ponce' is generally a description of him by restaurateurs...

I have been to a few restaurants where that would be a very good description of their fare, but there are plenty of perfectly good places where the quality and attention to detail fully justifies the term fine-dining's use without sarcasm!

Restaurants are a little bit like hifi. Range of different offerings at different price points. You pay your money and you make your choice.

Sounds exactly how I would have described the food he recently reviewed and awarded five stars to!! Roll Eyes Big Grin

Depends on what side of the bed he gets out of, perhaps?

If you are ever in York I can strongly recommend visiting Gillygate, specifically numbers 2 and 8! Big Grin
