I always wondered the same thing - from the LP12 FAQ that's on the net, I understood that the platter is perfectly balanced. Surely sticking bits of tape on it affects this balance?

I'm guessing your question is prompted by the mat sticking to lps (from static) when you change them. I'd try just four little squares of double sided sticky tape. Microscopically thin, and placed symmetrically there should be no balance issue at all -- certainly less than a record with its hole ever-so-slightly off-center.

Why do you ask? In 20 years of LP12 ownership I've only had vinyl sticking to the mat cos of static on a handful of occasions.

Bizarre! My mat sticks to the vinyl most of the time!

Hi,
Thought this might be the right thread to ask this question:
The felt mat that came with my LP12 (late 90s) is slightly thicker than the one that I just bought recently to replace it. Any idea what's going on?
Thanks
david

I find that the problem of the mat sticking to the vinyl is a lot worse in the winter time and put it down to the central heating which is drying out the air. Also I get some small shocks from the deck in winter too. It doesn't really bother me in the summer at all. In winter I always use a Zerostat gun before and after each play of a record. This helps to keep the problem at bay.

could it be that the mat needs to be de-coupled from platter? maybe i will phone linns tech dept. or oneday soon i will stack my aro and trash my dynavector. even more dodgy though if the missus uses it and isnt ready for the mat to drop from under the record
