Where to buy blank cassettes?

Posted by: Not For Me on 12 October 2003

My Nak needs feeding with a new batch of cassettes, and I can't seem to find blank TDK or Maxell C90 metal cassette tapes anywhere, either in a shop on on-line in the UK?

I used to buy TDK MA90s in John Lewis, but they don't seem to do them anymore - We are all using CD and Mini disc now it seems.

Anyone point me to a reliable mail order tape supplier or shop?

Thanks,

DS

A word of recommendation for an outfit called KJ or maybe KL Enterprises [or something similar]. They are located next to Aldgate East tube, and are truly extraordinary. Looking for Video 2000 blanks? This is the place - ditto virtually every other obscure format you've never heard of, plus camcorder batteries, TDK magnetic wrist bracelets and all sorts of weird semi electrical gubbins. They're remarkably cheap, they don't take cards, and there's often a queue stretching out of the door. If you were dreaming of a hip recordable media outlet, then is might be it. No dress code [at present].

They often sdvertise in What Hi-Fi?, somewhere near the back - so a moment of flicking in Sainsbury's or WH Smith might be able to see if they are able to satisfy your needs.....

So they'll have some blank 8tracks for my Akai then??? Smile What about Playtape or this weird 5inch disc voice recording format I stumbled across once at school (I think it was some kind of VERY obsolete telephone answering machine)? Tee hee...

Alex,

Thanks for trying, you are a decent chap. At least I won't bother trying that angle now.

Emma from ProTape was very sympathetic to my needs, but couldn't help.

I have a parcel waiting for me in Parcelfarce depot Aldershot which I think might be tapes - I will find out tomorrow.

On the other hand, it might be more records.

If not tapes, I will try importing some from the US of A.

Dom - quite possibly ... that's the sort of stuff they specialise in. Last time I was there I noticed blank tapes for the very first Philips VCR system - can't remember what it was called, but the cassettes are square and last about an hour, and also MD-Data discs [different from the standard MD in that they were used in standalone MD-Data drives and couldn't cope wth ATRAC].

Well,

I picked up my package from Parcel force, and it was 20 metal tapes, so that should keep me going for a bit.

The strange thing was, when I rang to check the parcel was there, the bloke asked my posttcode, then asked.

"Are you Mr. Parry?"

I had to deny it of course, but it was tempting to see where this led..?

At the depot, again, I gave my postcode and was asked:

"Are you Mr. Parry?"

Mick, the troops at Parcelforce must be watching out for you? Do you do "mystery shopper" trips?

No joy on the tapes in five other shops though.
