Review of CDSII

Posted by: Jez Quigley on 22 March 2003

I'm waiting (semi-patiently), for you lot to get your CDS3 at which point I'll pick up a CDSII cheap as chips (I wish). In the meantime I found this review online.

Reviewed by: Jizz Mopper, AudioPhile, from Derby, England

Summary:
Naim equipment must be absolutely the worst ever made. Does anybody at Naim actually listen to music? Have they ever heard any music live? Somehow I doubt it. I had previously heard some of their much cheaper equipment, and that was nothing special. However, this kind of price tag should really mean that you get something special, not something worse than the entry level model!! Absolutely abyssmal, thin, flat, lifeless - really unpleasant to listen to. The equipment it was hooked up to (too much to list) was very good, I have heard it all sound fantastic in other set-ups, but could do nothing for this horrendous piece of rubbish. Avoid with extreme prejudice.

Strengths:
Absolutely no redeeming features.

Weaknesses:
I've heard poorly set up, badly built turntables, worth maybe $20 or less, sound infinitely better than this rubbish. An absolute disgrace and an insult to the world of music and music lovers.

Similar Products Used:
All sorts, all better than this....

------
Keep taking the tablets mate. It may be a wind up, but take another look at his name - a euphemism for single handed activity - highly appropriate!

Jez

This author is either a complete and utter pillock or he is trying to down value the player in an attempt to pick one up for a bargin price.

I suspect he is either a total plonker or Mr Pig writing in under a non de plume.

Freedom Of Speech

Fine by me. I'm still enjoying my CDSII.

Nice to see a bit of balanced reporting on the forum for a change.

Keep a stiff upper lip, gentlemen - genuflect (it's legal) toward Salisbury and keep the faith.

John--

Heard a 202/Hicap (old)/NAPSC/250 (new) today. I now completely understand your preference.

Jez,

everyone is entitled to their own opinion. So the writer doesn't like Naim equipment, who cares!

There are plenty of other makes on the market for him to go and buy. Its a free world.

Personally I love the Naim sound and I have a Naim sistem, thats my choice.

NB, me too, but the vitriol in his comments makes me think there is something else going on other than 'listened to it, it's not for me'

I wasn't denying him his opinion, I just thought that I might share my amusement at his extreme views.

may differ on a reliable way.

If somebody would listen to some middle-priced Naim system (including S/H ones like mines that in their days were not middle-priced) and he’d told me: OK, it’s the well-known Naim sound, no real bass, no real treble extremes, no real space, somewhat accented middle but embarrassingly well-tuned low octaves that are rhytmically near-perfect, making the whole stuff highly listenable — well, then I say it’s not his cup of tee but at least he’s aware of what he’s speaking.

Contrary to this, the author of the judgement citated has knowledge on absloutely nothing: neither on Hi-Fi, nor on music.

Jez, could you please post the link so we can read the review for ourselves?

you'll find it on Audioreview which really isn't worth reading any more given the number of twats like 'Jizz Mopper' who obviously get some sort of kick out of posting negative reviews.

Hi Marco and anyone else interested, John is correct, you will find it on AudioReview. The specific page is http://www.audioreview.com/PRD_117011_1586crx.aspx#reviews
